According to the Radio Dentist, former radio writer John Mainelli was hired to be an inhouse consultant at WNEW.

Dentist went on to say that "changes are coming".

I'm not one to say that Mainelli is the cure-all to the station's woes, but to paraphrase Ferrall, he'll definitely shake it up.

Well, at least they ain't going country.

Not sure entirely, other than building WABC 770am when it was actually listenable and had real peronalities (bob grant, jay diamond, lynn samuels, curtis sliwa, ed koch) and not boring drivel (sean hannity).

Mainelli took the writing job at the NY Post after he left WABC, which he built solid with it's talk format.
He's a big fan of Ron and Fez, he penned the famous "Radio All Star Team" article, where he referred to RF as "The Gay and straight duo".
Mainelli is a good friend of Allan Sniffen(The NY Radio Message Board). They both were frequent guests together on Alan Colmes show on the former WEVD.
This sounds major, although consultants usually come and go.
