If you live in N.J. you know what a horror it is to get on the major highways like the Parkway, Turnpike, 287, etc. Why? Because of the huge trucks. They intimidate people espeically if YOU WANT TO OBEY THE LAW AND DO THE SPEED LIMIT. I personally know of 3 people killed by them on major highways. The latest horror story was of a lady I heard of that had a truck actually "hook onto the back of her back bumper".

I heard there is a proposal to build highways just for trucks. I think it is a fantastic idea. And I think the truckers would like it too.

it'll never happen. no one is going to want to pay for it, no one will want it in their neighborhood, and it would take years upon years to build.

we already have that on LI and have had it for as long as I've lived. Trucks cannot go on the southern or northern parkway. And I mean can't. They built the overpasses too low just so that trucks, and buses can go on these parkways. The only main truck route on LI is the LIE.

I agree with JustJon here...the cost and the effort to do so would be insane.

When I think of the money saved in time for less hours on the highways for both the truckers and general public as well as less deaths and lawsuits and insurance costs going up resulting in this, the expenses are far less than the advantages gotten.

But you're forgettiing that the world revolves around money. If it's going to cost anything, it won't be done no matter the supposed advantages.

Look at the supposedly "improved" airline security as the perfect example of how cost matters more than protecting lives. The same people who worked at airline security checkpoints work there now. Why? Cause of money.

Trucks to get their own roads?

That's like a wet dream for me.
