View Full Version : Extacy and Anti-Depressants?
OK, as you may know I'm working on my writing and in a Screenplay I'm working on, I want the following scene to occur:
A woman has a huge scare and grabs for her bottle of anti-depressants and pops a few pills. A little later, instead of relaxing, she's freaks out more and passes-out, etc. and goes to the hospital and almost dies. Later, the doctors tell her she was on exstacy -- someone switched her pills.
So, I have a few questions about whether it's possible: First, are there any X pills that look close enough to an anti-depresant (any one will do--the stronger the better) that someone could be fooled?
It doesn't have to be possible (it's the movies after-all) but I'd like to be as accurate as possible.
I really want to use X because the badguys are college-age and I want it to be a drug that they could easily get to fuck her up. Also, how many tabs of X would really fuck someone up without killing them?
So, I'm calling on the help of pillheads and e-heads alike. Maybe we can combine forces, the depressed people describing their pills and the ravers describing the different forms X comes in. I've seen various anti-depressants and a tab or two of E in my day, but this is beyond my realm.
I'd really like to make this belivable, though. I hate movies where they take liberties and people sell sudafed as E like people won't know the difference.
Again, the chick just had a huge scare, so it just has to be close...
Thanks!

I couldnt tell you anything about either pills...... but why would a bunch of college guys waste a bunch of expensive x trying to kill some bitch when they could just coat her pills in liquid acid?or cyanide?or some crap they stole from the chem. lab? not that i've thought about this before or anything... <P>

I've seen someone take 12 STRONG pills without dying. But he looked really uncomfortable, had a tolerance, and had sweat pouring off of him in buckets. He however did freak out and was in the hospital for a few days
It would really depend on what was in the E - all E is different.
All E usually looks different too - there's pictures of pills that have been tested at www.dancesafe.org - that will give you an idea of what they look like

anti-depressants aren't taken as needed, they're taken at set times because they are not quick fix, they are a gradual improvement. is it in this girl's personality to act in this manner to pop a bunch of them when they don't work in that way? and wouldn't anti-anxiety pills be more appropriate?

one of this character's flaws is that she has anxiety issues and uses the pills as a crutch...yes, anti-anxiety pills would be better description...i know they are not taken as needed, but this chick just got the fuck scared out of her and she's desperate to relax...i know plenty of people who abuse the pills on an as-needed basis...
i want to use E for lots of reasons and having them lace the regular pills with some fancy chemical seems a little far-fetched...
I found on a site where there are "reports" of Ecstasy pills being made to resemble other drugs like xanax and prozac, so that might solve the problem easily...again, I could take the easy way out and just explain it away, but I want to make it as believable as possible, even to people in the know...

DAN - Hippie is correct. Antidepressants are not used to relax, nor are they "popped" in times of stress. Anti-depressants must be taken daily and consistently to be effective. (They work at their peak when the theraputic dose of the drug in the blood is constant.)
Anti-anxiety medications can VERY broadly be described in two classes; those long acting medications which are taken constantly (daily) to reduce anxiety, and those which are short acting and taken either before a stressful event (that has previously provoked attacks) or in the midst of a panic attack.
MDMA, Also known as Methylenedioxymethamphetamine) X or extacy is beyond huge on college campuses. It's used by people of all ages, but it's primary users are between ages 18 and 25.
X is a very dangerous drug. It is completely synthetic (man made - not found in nature) and has an extraordinarily powerful hallucigenic effect. Some of the problems it causes includes: Brain damage, confusion, depression, sleep problems, ANXIETY and paranoia. Some psychotic episodes have been reported as well.
Recent studies into the drug link X with memory loss and brain damage in the parts responsible for thought. In animal studies, monkeys, exposed to X for four days had brain damage evident six to seven years later, People who take X risk permanent brain damage.
X destroys nuerons that produce serotonin, which play a direct role in regulating aggression, mood, sexual activity, sleep, and sensitivity to pain. This is what gives X its reported properties of heightened sexual experience.
X is very similar in chemical composition to methamphetamine which has been shown to cause degeneration of neurons that contain dopamine. Damage to these neurons is the underlying cause of the motor disturbances seen in Parkinson's disease.
SINCE X CAUSES ANXIETY IT WOULD HAVE PARTICULARLY DEVESTATING EFFECTS ON SOMEONE WHO HAS AN ANXIETY DISORDER.
Phsycial effects of X include: Blurred vision, muscle tension, nausea, feeling faint, chills or sweating and elevated blood pressure and heart rate - All symptoms experienced by people with anxiety disrorders.
So DAN, X would be the perfect drug to fuck up your protagonist with an anxiety dirorder. If you have any friends who are MD's you can look at the PDR (physicians desk referene) and see a picture of many commonly prescribed pills.

Dan
I actually did a little research on this and the combination of SSRI anti depressants and ecstacy both affect the levels of seratonin in your brain. It is my understanding that the correct combination or amount of them can be extremely harmful
some SSRI's
paxil
zoloft
celexa
andmany more

OK...start with the drug jokes here....

Hordeking, that was an awesome and very informative post! MAn, a few yearss back I tried X and felt ALL OF THOSE SYMPTOMS....and I DO have anxiety issues. Billy, the Mitsubishi ( spelled wrong i know) is SUPPOSEDLY a very dangerous X pill out now, maybe thats OLD news ....I dont know......just sawit ona COPS rerun the other night. said it was killing kids and there was an advisory out on it, It just had the three diamond logo on it and was a round white pill. Good luck, personally, I HATED that SHIT! Also, Hordeking, DO you know if people who abuse X for like two three years suffer permanent brain damage? As far as the ability to produce natural endorphins??? and what about opiate abusers? OK, TOTALLY getting OT. Sorry, but great post, and again GOOD LUCK BILLY! Wish I could've met you!!!!! Great video.

Mitsubishis used to be the guarenteed "pure" pills you could find in the States...but that was like 5-6 years ago. Since then, when they were realized to be the "hot" pills, dealers began stamping the logo on all of their pills, no matter what was in them, which led to a lot of dangerous situations.
The key is, like people have said, if anyone is on any kind of serious medication, they should NOT take E for any reason. And even people not medicated should ALWAYS get a testing kit before trying E. Most Western European countries have wisely begun offering these for free through their government health services. They're very simple to use, and are avilable in the States through organizations like DanceSafe.org (For about $45).
