There is a procedure called a "scar revision" that significantly reduces the amount of scar tissue and in cases of disfiguring scars make a lot of sense.

However there are two caveats to this. The first is that many insurance companies will not cover it, as they consider this surgery cosmetic and elective. The second is that there are some scars that cannot be revised due to their proximity to certain nerve clusters that would be too risky to operate on.
