hey , this might sound strange but it freaks me out about the thought of eternal life(if it does exist) yet death doesnt really scare me. I dont know what it is that freaks me out about it, whether the human brain can't comprehend eternity or that i have no control over it, etc. It's not like I'm losing sleep over it or anything but i was just wondering if there was some sort of explanation for this or if anyone else has ever felt this way. Thanks.

Yes. The idea of my mind living on forever freaks the hell out of me too.

Good topic. I never really wanted to talk about it, because as I type this, my palms just got sweaty, and I'm getting a headache.

As a child, I used to lie awake at night scared to death of the thought of eternal life.

But then I came to the conclusion that religions were all bullshit. Now, I feel better about things.

I had to go to church every Sunday as a child, and I vivdly remember being VERY mad when I learned that we were all supposed to live forever until Adam & Eve fucked it up with the original sin. Left a bitterness in me that helped drive me out of the church around age 18...haven't been back since...

FTW2285 - Perhaps you can gain some solace from the fact that once you die, you are not conscious of anything at all. Make the most of the brief time we have because the world in front of us is all we see.

As for eternity, the word connotes the passage of time. However if the universe is open, after a couple of billion decades there won't be enough energy in the universe for atoms to move. All stars will be dead. Infinite coldness and barreness. Yet, without movement, there is no passage of time, so the conventional idea of eternity is itself somewhat flawed. (Even if the universe is closed, the idea of consciousness continuing throughout the big crunch and big bang seems quite remote.)

If Moe dies before me, I'm gonna just die out of the sheer terror brought on by the idea of him haunting me.

MAN! I'd be the BEST GHOST! I'd wait until you were getting your F on with your lady friend, or you were droppin' da bomb on the bowl, and suddenly, BOO!!!!!!!

Spooky! The room would get cold, you'd smell Stetson Country in the air, and the sweet sounds of Death Metal would accompany me!

How about if your body dies, but your brain/intellect lives on.. only its trapped inside of a coffin for eternity.

Horde King- What makes you so sure there is no after life? Have you ever died before? What makes you so sure there is no God?

Who is this guy? This is a thread for people who don't like the idea of Eternal life, people who want to make comments on DEATH METAL MOE haunting them, and people how like to punch grandma's in the face.
