View Full Version : Why do certain groups overreact to certain issues?

I was wtahcing some footage of people protesting against homosexuality at Matthew Shepard's funeral. They had signs saying "FAGS DIE, GOD LAUGHS" and "ANDREW IS BURNING IN HELL". All of this at the funeral of a young man who had been beaten to death and hung on a fence post just because he was gay. So why do these fringe groups, mostly religious, go to such extreme lengths to spread a message like this? They all seem to be Christian, and according to what I learned in church and read in the Bible as a child, God supposedly loves all of his creations, and teaches all to forgive over all else. So how these people ignore this aspect of a book they take so "seriously"? And what's the logic in saying that God put AIDS on Earth to kill gay people? It's just piss-poor planning...I mean, what are the odds that lesbians are going to get AIDS? It's like saying that lung cancer was created by God just to kill smokers.

Same with hate groups that claim that "white people are losing America to the blacks" or that homosexuals "Are trying to convert straight children to their lifestyle." How does one go from seeing MINORITES (In that one group takes up less than 20% of the country and the other less than 10%) trying to not be discriminated against for race or sexual habits, and see instead people trying to "take over" the country or "recruit" their children? It's like going from point A to point Q in one step.

These hate groups particularly the religious fringe have been imposing their brand of warped misguided morals on everyone, whether they worship the same god(s) or not.

Everyone "knows" that they have a monopoloy on the truth.

In fact they're scared little people who cannot abide their own impulses and desires and want to eliminate every threat to their way of thinking in an attempt to thrawt their own nature.

I see this a little differently in that all groups have elements that overreact to 'hot-button' issues. That's because all groups have those who respond to and reason with emotion in lieu of reason, and also due to the fairly equal distribution of idiots across the political/ideological spectrum. <P>

But the religious groups place SO much stock in the Bible...the whole "God hates gays" thing really is a matter of how one interprets the Bible (Written by mortal men), but the idea that God loves all his "children" and we're all suppose to forgive above all else, well, those aspects are clear as day. How can these people pledge their lives to a book when they completely ignore some of the most obvious parts? It seems so empty and pointless...
