Horde King-please help

Ok Mr King I need some help. My tiolet doesnt work. The water in the tank runs continuosly, but the tank never fills up, and, of course, with no water in the tank, you can't flush. So why doenst my tank filll up and how can I fix it?
Please describe exact instructions in great detail.

It sounds like your float might be broken.

Or maybe that flap that fits over the whole in the bottom isn't making a seal anymore. Make sure the chain that connects it to the float arm isn't tangled.

Other than that, I no little about toilets. I'm a carpenter by trade.

If it persists, shut off the valve feeding your tank, so youdon't waste water all day and night. Actually, shut if off anyway.

JOHNEEWADD - In all probability, if the tank isn't filling up, the flap at the bottom of the tank isn't making an adequate seal (to prevent the water from escaping when it should be filling). You can see if this is the problem by pushing down on the seal (or trying to reposition in) and seeing if the tank fills. If your hands come away black, the seal needs to be replaced, even if it can be temporarily refit.

It's very easy to fix this. You can buy a separate seal for about $4.00 at a Home Depot type store, but you're better off replacing the entire mechanism, including the flushometer (the ball) and other parts as well. This is sold in an extremely easy to use kit that costs about $15.00. That should solve the problem.
