View Full Version : Steak ordering

Being a bit of a steak obsessive, I've noticed people have all these clever little phrases for how they want their steak cooked.
For example:
Rare - Still mooing, saveable by a good vet, just show it to the grill.

Medium - Make it medium but don't rush it, not bloody, but not crispy.

Well done - burn it to a crisp, make it a cinder, make sure it's dead.

Why do people do this? Do they think it's original, like the waiter has never heard this level of witty banter before? Just give the waiter your order so he can get to me.

Make it a burger...well...

I just needed to catch up with everyone else...I didn't want to hold everyone up. Sorry! It sucked, if that makes up for it...

Most people think they're witty.

A stiff kick to the groin usually cures them of this problem for a short period of time.

I like mine rare/medium rare, depending on the establishment.

We took my friend out to "Outback" before he moved away. When he ordered his steak, he said still mooing. I was so embarrased. I'm glad he moved away. Jackass.

I'll just order it "well done" and leave it at that, but I don't think that most people think they're being witty or original when giving those descriptions.

When it comes to cooking steak, there's a lot of room for interpretation, hence the reason why people over emphasize when ordering it.

Now, if you wanna talk about folks who'll ask "if it's cold enough for you," or if you're "working hard, or hardly working," well, they need to be kept away from normal society.

I used to love ultra rare meat. But it made me very sick after awhile. I usually order it well done now. Ocassionaly, if I'm feeling daring, I'll order it medium.

You, my friend, are a wild man! ;)

Eating it rare doesn't seem too healthy to me either, good and burnt, smothered in onion and drowning in A-1 is the way to go!

I get mine medium for sure. ,Medum Rare isn't that bad , but something you eat at a resturant shouldn't be bleeding.

I had a delicous steak last night but it wasn't exactly what i wanted. I asked for medium and i got it very rare. I hate to see the shit fucking bleeding, it makes it un-edible.

If I wanted to eat charcoal, I dunk my head in a grill. I eat mine bloody as a tookie...and as such, like a man.

As for me, any of the mediums, depending on the restaurant and the cut.

It all depends on the steak and the restaurant. If it's Morton's of Chicago and it's thier double cut filet mignon, it's best medium. If you're going to Ruth Chris...it's best Medium Rare. Dont even waste your time at Outback.

My buddy is like that. He orders is like a RUCKING RETARD saying "I like it bloody! MAke it REALLY RARE!"

Then when they tell him that they can't legally give it to him that rare because they could get in a lawsuit if h gets sick, he starts to get snotty with the poor girl.

Hey, how about I just bloody your FUCKING LIP, asshole. Leave her alone, she's making minimum wage, and now she knows YOUR stupid ass isn't even gonna tip her right.

DO NOT FUCK WITH YOUR FOOD SERVER. There are plenty of SCUMBAGS that will wipe their sack across your pizza out there for no good reason other than you DARED to call them out on a bad night.

Whenever I travel, I always try to get a steak, and I've found some good places (and some not so good places)

If you're ever in Indianapolis, go to "Coach and Horses". They will cut your steak to order. Want a 32oz prime rib? No problem. It's great.

I hate restaurants that if you order medium well or well they say "we won't do that to the meat, it makes it tough". I always reply, if your chef was any good, he would know how to do well-done right.

Medium rare. Cooking enough to free it of most diseases, rare enough to keep most of the vitamins.

Fact is, the more you cook something, the less nutirtional value it actually retains. This goes for meat as well as vegetables.

med / med rare - just a hint of pink/purple in center, then pink - my wife usually has to elaborate so they get it right for her (med / med well). I do admit that I have been known to answer "cooked" when they asked how I want it, but thats usually after a coupla nice glasses of wine.
