Im sure EVERY administration had illegals. Last I looked women and blacks didnt get equal rights till long after the initial writing of the constitution, so technically they were illegal. But no one is going to bust on them, so lets leave this guy alone. Get him some citizenship for he is living the American dream

Remember we're talking about an illegal alien. someone who is not allowed to be present in the US, who does not pay taxes but still uses our services.

Women and minorites from the 50's & 60's were still citizens! they had a right to be here. they weren't facing deportation. This guy is a criminal, by his very presence in this country.

All were admitted to the US legally, but there's more to it.
9 of the 19 were here on a M-1 visa. It's a type of student visa. they were legal non-residents. Now, all but 3 of the terrorists stayed longer than they were allowed, which means they became illegal. You might remember that 2 of them got an extention after the attacks. That kills me everytime.

the other 10 were here on expired B2 visas. That's a tourist visa. they were not here legally.

So, only 3 had any kind of legal status on 9-11. None had "Green cards".

they didn't wander in. They presented themselves for inspection. There were no loopholes. But it comes down to this:
A man with money comes to the US to take classes that are not offered his home country. You do a search and find that he has not commited a crime here and is not wanted by authorities in other countries. He's files all the needed paperwork and paid all the fees. He's not a risk for picking strawberries or doing landscaping because he has more money than you'll ever have. Based on this, what reason do you have to keep him out of the country?

None. There's no reason to keep this guy out. Nothing, except race. But we can't go that route. And he didn't use a loophole. The problem is not at the boarder. The boarders are choked with agents, both INS and USCS. The problem is, once he's here, no one's looking for his 16 friends i mentioned before.

So we can either, shut down the boarder( not a solution), or greatly beef up deportation teams inside the US. Of course this would not stop 3 of the 19.

You can either crack down or illegals, or seal off the border, and only the latter would theoretically "solve" the terrorists in our midst problem. Of course, the American public would not tolerate what is essentially a step to creating a millitary/police state, and wisely so. When I say "loopholes", I mean more in aspects of security. Most of the 9/11 terrorists were already on intelligence "watch lists", and they even used their real names when applying for visas. That's the kind of foul-up that needs to be caught, and quickly.

No, they weren't on THOSE agencies' list. The FBI and the CIA have both come forward and admitted that the majority of the highjackers were already on their "watch lists". And therein lies one of the biggest problems this country has in terms of "the war on terror": non-cooperation and flat-out petty squabling between the agencies. The NSA, FBI and CIA try their best to act independently from the others, and that's changing much, MUCH too slowly. That's why creating yet ANOTHER agency, Homeland Security, to do the job of agencies that already exist is just going to make things worse before they get better.

I'm just going to state the obvious.

The majority of illegal aliens in this country do the work that citizens don't want to do. They cannot take full advantages of any public services offered by the state or federal governments. They may not pay taxes directly, but the stimulate the economy with their purchases as well as provide cheap labor for businesses.

The majority of illegal aliens are only illegal because they do not have the money or resources to afford the exorbitant cost that it requires to become a legal resident of this country.

Anti-immigrant sentiments always increase during economic down turns. It's easy to say "let an American live the American dream." However, the American dream doesn't just belong to those of us lucky enough to be born in the United States. Last I checked, the United States wasn't the only country in North or South America.

Furthermore, the "American Dream" is universal. Natural instinct is to better yourself and provide a different life for your family.

INS has never worked right.
the problem stems from it's duel purpose. One half is designed to keep people out. The other side is designed to help people stay. So it's always at war with itself. That combined with the fact that INS doesn't issue visas or have any say in how they're issued leaves them ineffectual.

I did reread your statment and you did not see my technicality. Look at your statement. "Someone who is not allowed to be present in the US". Well blacks and women were NOT represented by the US government, why it took the 13th amendment to FREE black me, the 14th to give them equal rights, and the 15th the right to vote. So BEFORE that time, black MEN were not legally represented by the US, hence "illegal". Never forget it was "Illegal" immigrants which built this nation, and current nationalists cause more problems which kept this white house guy from being legal than is necessary...

no, i wanted you to reread your statememt because it's totally insane.
And illegal immigrants didn't build this country. The concept on an illegal alien didn't come into being until 1890. before that, visas were not needed. Any healthy individual could come. and even after it was still legal to come here WithOut Papers (WOP). So they were complimg with the laws in place at the time.
