Why do thumbs get the shaft??

I noticed that almost everything with buttons requires the use of all your fingers except for the thumb. Keyboards almost completely relegate the sole use of the thumb to the spacebar. Most TV remotes are designed for use by the other fingers, as are most cell phones as well. What is up with that?

I don't know - I use my thumb to press the buttons on my tv remote and my cell phone. It's just easier to cradle the remote/phone with my fingers and use the thumb to hit the proper buttons...

the only remote i have that allows my thumb to do anything is my dvd remote for selecting scenes.

maybe i'm just lazy and not creative. ltrooster is right about gaming though.

If there were single handed
items like remotes, etc. (not
videogame controllers
where you use both hands)
that required the use of
thumbs they'd have to make
right and left handed
versions. And that would be
dumb.

my thumb does all the button pushing for my TV remote control. not to mention how important it is to me playing Playstation games. it does all my player movements and striking.
