it is amazing that no matter the topic the views to reply ratio seems to stay right around 10 to 1
having said that I truly don't care if anyone responds to this its just food for thought

Yeah, that's interesting. Who posts in every thread they read though? You'd think it would be like 50-1

I know what you mean. I guess people just check in and see if they could put their two cents in.

Am I the only one who would check a statistic like this before responding to it?
I checked the first 10 topics in the general discussion thread. The ratio of views to replies were:
12.38/1
15.6/1
16.82/1
11.55/1
13.43/1
104/1
109.1/1
9.30/1
22.7/1
46/1
So the average of views to posts in this small sample, chosen randomly, was about 36/1.
The median, or midpoint number, if there were one, would be closer to what you suggest, in this case about 16.2.
There is no mode (most frequently occuring number) in this small sample either, though again, it would seem to be closer to the number you suggest, somewhere between 9 and 17.
I don't know why I go through all this trouble. I just sometimes get very annoyed by the misuse of statistics. For example, I read in a book tonight about the "Of the 200,000,000 eligible voters, 154,000,000 of us didn't vote for Bush". The author neglected to mention that of that number, about 100,000,000 didn't vote at all, and another 4 million or so voted neither for Bush nor Gore. Changes your perspective a bit, no?

dewey,
i know what you are saying but if you are so into people's perception of statistics then maybe you would notice that there are a couple of those figures that are skewing your numbers....anyway take a look at the the first ten threads on the Off Topic board
who cares i don't know why i am defending this....i must've drove through a puddle of lameness on my way to work today
