View Full Version : Biggest Ripoffs
I was getting money out of an atm machine the other day and thought to myself "what a ripoff" this thing is.
I figure that if a bank puts, say 500 bills in the machine at the beginning of the day (50s, 20s, 10s) and they charge usually $1.50 per transaction (some banks charge $2.00 per transaction),and customers during the day each got $20. out of the machine....I figured the bank just made $750. for walking from one side of the bank to another to put the cash in the machine.
Yes,I know, these transactions are computerized, but how much effort is that?
What are some huge ripoffs in your book?

I happen to work for a bank in atm systems and it is a ripe off most of the money from the transactions is used to pay the armored car and vendor service for atms not serviced by the bank.....you have to be careful to watch your acct and how much you get cause there are a lot of errors and 40% of the time you wont get your money back....there is also alot of theft by tellers that service the inbranch atms......but most of your 1.50 is profit....alot of people go to there bank atm so they dont get charged........one more thing i am working on a check cashing atm there are a few out there now and it is a scam they charge 8% of the check but you have to have a card from your employer to cash the checks that you will get an quartly few for.....I feel compeled to also say that i work in a building with almost 200 people and every single on of us lost are jobs.....we have a few months till we are all gone basterds moving it to pa cause it is cheaper labor

ehh, it the price of laziness.
I am woman hear me roar, bitch, and whine.
armored car and vendor service for atms not serviced by the bank.....
Just curious, though - aren't the armored cars servicing the bank anyway for other matters?
One other thing is that I definitely do believe a lot of the atms in malls, shopping centers, etc. are used by people who do not have accounts at that bank - so they are charged (like I was - and will continue to be).

1. thse armored cars take and give money to the branch to use and included in that are the atm....the offsite atms are serviced and reconsiled by the vendor like brinks or loomis fargo they are in charge of the money and basicly we loan out the atms to them and buy the money from them....when there is a difference in the atm we research it put together a claim package and get the money back from the vendor there are claims that are in the 1,000.00's that we have not gotten back
2.your right about that and they make big money but that profit is filtered throw the vendor then us and it is not as much as it would be if it were serviced by the bank

I almost never use the ATM, since supermarkets started taking dabit cards and giving you the option of gtting money back (FOR FREE!!!) thats what I usually do. Go to the supermarket (which I have to do anyway!) get my groceries, pay debit and ask for money back. Most will give you upto $100.
Its a little loophole (that I'm sure they will close soon) that lets us to go ATM fee free.
Peace & Hugs,

The biggest ripoff is when you go into a card/candy shop and there is an indian guy at the counter who can barely speak english. If you are in a rush, they can rip you off without you are them even knowing it.
Damn them!

You want a rip-off? Motor Vehicles! Cars are almost completely built by automated machines on an assembly line. It does not cost near that much to make one. It's all a rip-off. And they break... they are not even quality like they used to be.

And clothing... I have way to much to say about that. Why does a designer suit cost more than a regular suit made out of the same material in the same way, maybe in the same sweatshop. I avoid buying brand name when i can, it's the same crap with a fancy name. Human beings are so vain.

Your bank can still charge you for using an ATM that isn't on their network. Check your account terms. <P>
