Kinda Two Questions
This past week, all that has flooded the news has been reports on a possible terror attack. Now correct me if Im wrong, terrorists, usually attack on days when it is completely unexpected, thus making a bigger story and a bigger impact on thier target.
Now, because of the media "hype" couldnt we say that it is being a shield for us. As long as the media is warning us and keeping watch on an attack, then the chance of an attack may be lower.
But then again, whats the point of a terror attack, when you already have terrorized the nation. Rocket launchers in DC + NY as well as other cities. Offices searching for new places to work, schools being locked down when the attack happens, and becoming detox centers. Dont forget the bomb shelters and attack aid kits.
Why would Al Queda need to attack, america is already terrified, so is it completely necessary for them to attack and get more people on thier asses in Iraq and Afghanistan?
To sum up - Is the media egging them on to attack, or keeping them from doing it. And whats the point when the terrorist already have us scared shitless.?

The media never helps, unless its giving needed information, which is very rare. It may help a little, but with or without the media i dont think there would be an attack anytime soon. They're going to have to top what they did last time to get their recognition. They would need to plan how to get the disease or bomb, where to put it, how to obtain it secretly, how to smuggle it into the U.S., and how and when to detonate it or release it. You dont just find some bubonic plague and chuck it down the subway, its not that easy, or im hoping it isnt.

Of course it doesn't. The media protects its interests and those for which make it powerful.
Whether it's a newspaper, tv report, the news or some other form of media....they are interested in keeping the viewer/ reader coming back for more...so they get more profit.
And if you don't think so...pick up "Manufacturing Consent" by Noam Chomsky. It will wake you up to a dose of reality.

the media is just overreacting to this terrorist crap. I dont think there is anything to worry about.
(yes, I do realize my response had nothing to do with your question.)

The media doesn't keep us safer. They usually run with a sensationalist story that can be told in 30 seconds for a half hour program that has you convinced by programs end, that the world will not exist in the morning.
Yes, another terrorist attack is inevitable. Most of us get it. Harping on it doesn't help and may do damage.
Terrorists attack when they are able to and when they feel they can make a statement or achieve their primary mission - inciting terror, death and destruction. That can happen any day, whether we have the green, orange or red alert.
It's the cops and military personel and other civil servants who protect us from terrorism. If Bush actually gets off his ass and starts destroying the terrorist states he's been promissing for the past 2 years, we'll have the greatest protection possible. They can't attack when they're dead. And that's the only solution. I wonder how many more Americans will have to die before we wake up and say, "fuck the world, we have to do what's right."
You wonder why terrorist groups need to attack when we're already so terrified. Each attack is another call for more death and destruction in the name of Allah. The entire Arab/Muslim world hates us. They don't need to be riled up further. But they will continue to be riled up and willingly participate b/c their hatred is so strong.
