View Full Version : What Causes a Nose Bleed?

Earlier this afternoon (at work), I was at my desk, on the phone and all of a sudden my nose started to drip.
Since I have had a bad cold lately, I figured it was just nasal-drips.. but when I looked at the tissue it was red and the flow became faster and very thin.
I wondered what exactly causes this to occur.
About a couple of hours ago, again, this flow started back up and it took longer this time to stop it.
What is going on?

Latin,
There are many reasons why people get nose bleeds(Epistaxis). Your's sounded pretty serious since it repeated itself a couple of hours later. I highly recommend a visit to your physician.
In the meantime, check out this site:

Although most nose bleeds are not serious, some are. Just to be on the safe side, I'd get a checkup from an ENT, especially if this has happened more than once. It can be a sign of heart disease, hypertension and I believe arteriosclerotic heart disease.
The most common causes are dry air and (don't laugh) nose picking. You can get a humidiffier to put some moisture into the air around you.

I get nose bleeds all the time. They are a way of life for me now. Picking and cold, dry air is the main cause. Also getting the REALLY stuck on, dry booger is the cause as well. And picking out old blood is a cause.
Sometimes I get a nose bleed that won't completely heal for a week or more. I usually just pack toilet paper in it and keep doing what I was doing.
My advice to you is moisturize your nose with one of those sprays if it keeps up. Also, DO NOT pick of blow your nose hard until you're fairly sure it has completely healed. Doing this will just open the affected area again.
Third, if you want to gross people out, let it bleed down the back of your throat, then later hock up the hugest, bloodiest flem/booger block you've ever seen.

I know that what can cause a "SEVERE" headache that leads to convulsions, thus total unconciousness, and a nosebleed is having to have to listen to this whacked assed New York City radio stations without the Ron&Fez show!

This whole nose bleed thang is wierd. a couple weeks ago, i fell asleep in my world history class, and when i woke up, i could feel a dampness on my arm and fac. I quickly found out that i had begun to bleed. quite embarrasing.
but, latinspice, your bleeding was probably caused by a special time in a girls life.
