C'mon K.B., you're a fan of the Irish, you know what it's like to root for the most storied franchise in your particular sport & have other people hate them just because they breathe.

I'm 29 years old. In my lifetime, the Yanks have won 6 championships. BUT, 2 were before I could really comprehend, and my formative years (when you're playing little league & everyone is talking smack about your teams) were spent rooting for teams that sucked moose cock.

Now they return to glory & we should come up with something better than "we're the best." I have to apologize for having an owner that is less of a millionaire than most baseball owners, yet is willing to spend the most of all of them to win? For having a General Manager that is only 3 years older than me, but yet always seems to make the right decisions (except when the boss pulls those strings & makes him go out & sign international players just because he needs new toys to play with)?

It might be tougher to be a Yanks fan now than when they were playing in front of 15,000 fans on a July Saturday & already knew they were eliminated from the playoffs & I had to root for jerkoffs like Ricky Henderson or Mel Hall. And better yet, we have to take crap from fans of all other teams, just because we're the best in history. It's like being a Notre Dame fan & taking flack from an Iowa fan...like being a Cowboys fan in the 90's & taking shit from a Bears fan...like being a Ric Flair fan & taking shit from a Goldberg fan...what else do you say but "we're the best." What else needs to be said?

Therefore, I say unto thee...dear Yankees haters, please come up with something better than "yankees suck...just because." Especially those of you who are Mets fans, who had the ultimate chance of facing the Yankees head-to-head for the ultimate prize...and failed only slightly less miserably than the San Diego Padres.

ps: We hate Roger Clemens, too, so don't waste your breathe running that one by us.

If the yanks were legitamately the best, that would be one thing. This is totallly different. Steinbrener is a fucking pirate, anybody who is good gets signed, regardless if the team needs another body at the position. Last year they got jeff weaver and they already had 5 really good starters. They signeed Mondesi even though they had 2 exceptional right fielders. They outbid for any international player, simply because he is the best international player.

If those championships were won through a farm system as well as trades and siginings, they would be much more significant. They are won because the yankees sign up absolutely anybody available. It is total shit!!

I am so SICK of hearing people bitch about the Yankees and how they "buy their championships". How many teams have spent significant amounts of money only to end up going nowhere. For example:

NY Rangers, 2003 - $80 million, no playoffs
Baltimore Orioles, 1996-1999 - $80+ million payroll, never reached the World Series
NY Mets, 2001-2002 - $90+ million payroll, no playoffs
LA Dodgers, 1998-2002 - $80+ million payroll, no playoffs

Just spending money alone doesn't guarantee a damn thing. The Yankees won 4 series in 5 years between 1996-2000 because they knew HOW to spend money. They paid a premium for guys everyone knew would be great, but they also knew how to build a team's chemistry. Bernie, Jeter, Petitte, Posada, Rivera, and Clemens are all superstars, but they also knew the value of having depth in all areas. While they had the highest payroll, they NEVER had any of the top 5 most expensive players until they resigned Jeter (who's worth every penny). They spent money EVERYWHERE, because they understood it's not just about one or two components. Everything has to be strong, from your everyday line-up to your bench to your front office and scouting. Other teams threw money out of open windows (see the teams above), but the Yankees threw money at their specific needs. That's what made them special.

However, you'll note I wrote alot in the past tense. That's because something terrible has happened to the Yankees. Steinbrenner has flipped! And why? Because in 2001, Mariano Rivera finally ran out of magic for 2 minutes in Game 7 (that and a bloop hit by Gonzales). Not signing Jeff Nelson, or finding a suitable replacement, bit them in the ass, as Mariano just couldn't give them one more appearance where he had to go 2 innings. Ever since then, Steinbrenner forgot about the team elements that made the Yankees special, and started forcing his own agenda into the mix. By signing guys like Giambi, Matsui, Contreras, Mondesi, etc., he lost sight of building a team through finding the matching pieces to the puzzle. Instead, he just wants to collect all the best pieces and force them to fit together, which is a recipe for disaster. Now we're left with an organization that traded away its farm system, and instead signed either big name players who are closer to collecting Social Security than they are to their best playing days, or superstar talents with major egos.

My Yankees aren't mine anymore. It's just a bunch of big-name players who have nothing to bring them together other than Steinbrenner's money and the expectation of winning the World Series. The TEAM of the late 90s, where everything fit perfectly, is now a bunch of individual stars with nothing to truly bring them together. I fear another quick exit from the playoffs this year, with tons of injuries and major headaches from The Boss.

A couple of things...the Mets haven't won a championship in almost 20 years, and the Red Sox....well we all know that story. The Yankees were a joke in the 80's but the mets were a one trick pony who couldn't get it done twice in a decade much less twice in a row.

Yes, they've lost sight of what made them great from 96-2000, I think they lost a lot of heart with O'Niel, but I don't fault them for losing to Anehiem. They were the better team. They were incredible throughout the playoffs, and the Yanks played against them, what 6 games all of last year? They weren't expecting the onslaught, that's all.

Congrats to Anehiem, now it's time for the Yanks to step it up this year, and hopefully find a bullpen... yikes..

Isn't the success of our team the most definitive argument? I'm not a fan of baseball. I don't know stats and a lot of names and all that crap but I do know, and I take pride in the fact that the team I grew up watching with my pops is the most successful in american baseball history. Why would I need another argument when the sheer success of my team nullifies all logical arguments leaving only this blind hatred you can't accurately describe. You want to talk about having more arguments how about your lack of arguments. You've stated yourself that you hate the Yankees. That's it. Just blind hatred. There's no real rhyme or reason to it, you just hate the Yankees. The sad fact is that I probably have more respect for players on the Yankees than on the Mets. My hatred for them runs deeper because of the damn yellow cap wearin' assholes who know absolutely nothing about the history of the team. I consider myself a semi-knowledgeable baseball fan. I never pretended to be something that I'm not. I admit to only being a baseball and a Mets fan since 1985. I made it my responsibility to learn about the history of the game. I saw to it to learn about the Mets franchise. These front running jerks who only liked the Yanks because they were "cool" are what made me hate them. I used to be a firm believer that it was possible to like both NY sports teams. As long as you had an overall preference. I was a Mets fan who did indeed like the Yankees. I loved watching Don Mattingly, Dave Winfield, Rickey Henderson and Dave Righetti play. This was back in a day when interleague was a pipe dream. This was when nobody ever thought that there would ever be a "Subway Series". I have friends who are Yankee fans who say the same thing about front running fans who jumped with the Mets in 1986 and made fun of the Yankees and their fans. This may be true, but I was never one of those types of fans. The bottom line is that my enjoyment for Yankee baseball was ruined by these know- nothing punks who bought the red and blue Yankee caps and only heard of Derek Jeter. I feel that I became a "real" baseball fan after this. I now realize that it is impossoble to call yourself a baseball fan if you claim to like both NY teams. I respect a lot of the players on the Yanks. They are indeed a classy and historic franchise. I just can't say the same about some of thier fans.

Nobody can blame blame anything on payroll because the mets have the second highest payroll in baseball(first being Yankees) and there in last place as of now. Also in order for a team to have the highest payroll they must win therefore before they were able to buy anything and everything they had to win with what they had and they did, as a result they became the best team in basedball with some of the best players.

I can't speak for you mets fans, but my hatred stems from 10 miserable years of small market baseball

My beloved Pirates havent had a winning season since 92, when they were 1 out away from the series, but Barry F'n Bonds is a goddamn assbag and he couldnt throw the ball down the goddamn line.

Since then the pirates have lost to anyone and everyone, they've delt so so so many good players to other teams because they couldnt afford them.

The Pirates have been raped by large market, large revenue teams for the last ten years, and so i absolutely hate teams like the yanks and i feel they are tuining baseball. Now there are only a few truly competitive teams, simply because they cant throw money around.

Dont throw the fact that Minnesota is small market at me. They have many great talents, but are still much like the pirates of the early 90s. They can win the division all the want, but they cant continue to afford their talent and will have to get rid of them.

I was recently in a game store, and I overheard the clerk, who was a Met fan, arguing with a bunch of idiot kids about the Yankees. These moron kids claimed to be "real" Yankee fans, yet they had no clue who Bucky Dent was. One of the kids reponse was "I think my mom knows who he is". I chimed in and teamed up with the store clerk and made fun of the jackass kids for not knowing anything about the Yankees. One of them "kinda" heard of Yogi Berra. Enough said.

The parallel is the hatred for the Yankees that goes beyond any reasoning. There's no talking to you, no reasoning, no arguments contrary to your own views are even entertained. You just hate the Yankees. And my point was that I'm just glad that this type of anger is placed in a benign activity like a sport and not aimed at people. I listen to the comments that are made against the Yankees, the venom that's being spewedand the violent acts being wished on various members of the Yankee organization and I'm like "God DAMN! I'm glad they don't hate me.".
