Hopefully you're not flying in.

I work down in South Jersey about 45 minutes from there. I always wanted to go and see the memorial there at the air field.

<marquee>What I have to do, I have to catch everybody if they start to go over the cliff-I mean if they're running and they don't look where they're going I have to come out from somewhere and catch them. That's all I'd do all day. I'd just be the Catcher in the rye and all. I know it's crazy, but that's the only thing I'd really like to be. I know it's crazy</marquee>

When I was in the service, I had to go to a school there. God, what a dead place!!! I think they only had one or two old man bars in the town at the time!!!

my grandmother's brother 'Willie the Cop" was there and witnessed the whole Hindenburg thing... he was married to one of the Johnson & Johnson heirs for a few years but then divorced... He was a Jersey City cop who liked his liquor and his women...
anyway...
I pass through Lakehurst to get to Whiting to see my Pop whose in one of them Retirement Communities... I'm an "old fart" myself so I couldn't tell you about too many FUN things to do...

Yeah, Lakehurst is "out in the middle of nowhere". It's one of those parts of Jersey that is mostly pinelands with occasional stripmalls and pre-fab housing developments sprouting up.
You should probably get on Rt. 70 and head east for about 15-20 minutes or so and go to Brick(town). There's more going on there than in Lakehurst.
As for "being near where MTV had their Beachhouse", that was in Seaside Heights, which is many miles southeast of Lakehurst.
I used to work in Lakewood (about 5-10 minutes east of Lakehurst on 70) and there are a lot of "retirement villages" in those towns. Your best bet for entertainment is to hit some of the larger towns nearby.

am looking for something to do
Seaside-take 70 east to 37 east the Seaside Bridge(about 10 miles), go towards the beach(east) about two blocks and there are two roads that run parallel...find the Boulevard...in the middle of seaside you will find a couple of bars/clubs:
- Bamboo is the best if its a nice night b/c they have a huge outside part..there is a cover ($7-10)...the girls that go to bamboo are worth the price of admission
-Captain Hooks,(you will not see any signs that call it this but heres how to tell that you are at the right place....go north on the Boulevard untill you see a sign that has the word 'BAR' in big red letters) is a favorite of mine because they have a nubmer of things you can do while becomming innebriated....pool, shuffleboard, darts, those basketball things, ping pong, air hockey....it can be a dogfight to get to the bar though but its not bad if they have enough bartenders working....by the end of the night i usually order a pitcher of purplemotherfuckers for me and friends....they think i am a big spender but its like $8 bucks and you get like 7 shots out of the deal
there are others but these were just a suggestion
toms river-
Scoreboard-37 east on your right(after you cross under the Parkway its about 3 miles ahead on 37)...its in the shopping center behind the Pizza Hut
also, in Bricktown and Toms River the TGIFriday's bars get really packed...its usually like a high school reunion though
strip clubs....route 70 east to route 9 south...approximately 4 miles up on your right is Delilah's Den....no drinking though
