View Full Version : History of Israel - in a nutshell

with so much misinformation, confusion, lies and just plain forgetfulness, this link has made the History of Israel simple enough for a child to understand. While everything here is in every western history book, visual aids are so easy on the eyes.

Interesting site. I'd like to see more "history in a nutshell" pages...
While it should be clear to anyone that Arafat is THE biggest human obstacle to Israeli peace, the site was more than just a tad one-sided. It focused only on the large-scale invasions where, yes, Israel was the victim. The vague, "they only offer peace again and again" notion was pure, blinders-on horseshit, but still, a decent primer on key dates and events...
On a related note to this topic, for anyone who still bothers to read these days, check out THIS book...

...in my opinion, it's hands-down the best book on the Israeli/Palestine issue by FAR...

This proves what I have thought since I was a little boy. Israel is the best country on this planet. Arabs should be brought to the brink of extinction, like the europeans did to the American Indian when they raped the Indians of this land.

Or you could do a little more work and read the history sections of the more objective US Library of Congress: ISRAEL - A Country Study.

Oh well. Two sides to every story I guess. I don't think you'll EVER find an unbiased account of the history of the region.

History in a nutshell would be so great. Except for the one-side biasing. It's more like history in the half-shell for now.
Look at me! I'm in a nutshell! How did I get in this nutshell!? This is crazy!

I've probally read about 5 books about this conflict with in the last month. The best one I read was....( I don't know the extact name but I can get it) Beginners guide to the Palestinian Conflict/ wrote by one Jew and one Arab. This issue is so complicated I really can take either side of "whose" land it should be. I do lean to the Jewish side because it seems Arabic leaders really do not won't peace with Isreal. Also read by Bernard Lewis " What went Wrong" its about the trouble in the Middle East.

Utterly fantastic book. Just came out in paperback a month or two ago and I read the whole damn thing in one evening. It's that good.

Though the nutshell is from one side, it is also factual. I notice no one pointing out errors in it.
I would point out that in '48 Israel was not established, but re-established.
Also back then, the place was referred to as "Palestine" because anti Jewish Brits didn't want to call the area "Israel", and the "Palestinians" were mostly referred to as "Arabs" or "Arab refugees" after they lost the war in '48.
When Israel was re-established in '48, in their opening declaration they appealed to the surrounding Arabs for peace, and of course were turned down.
The PLO was formed in the early 60's when they had the West Bank, Jeruselem and the Gaza Strip, but their goal then as it is now is the destruction of Israel.
Around 1974 at a PLO summit a plan was announced that they have followed to this day. According to this plan, they would say or do anything to get a foothold in the occupied territories and would use that as a base to accomplish the goal of the destruction of Israel.
Since being given some measure of autonomy in the West Bank and Gaza, the Palestinians have set up for themselves a corrupt, useless regime to govern themselves.
They have not shown themselves fit to run anything as complex as a national government, or fit to be a good neighbor in the area.

I have two kids. When they fight if I get involved early on, I care who started it and pick a side. If they keep fighting, I eventually tell them both to shut up and cut it out or stop complaining and fight until they draw blood.
I'm at this point with the Israel/Palestine situation.
