All my life I feel like I have no sense of smell....is this possible? I never smell things burning or couldn't really tell you what anything really smells like. The only kind of senses i get from my nose is when things go from hot to cold. Even in situations where everyone complains about a terrible smell(Fart/crap)....i still smell nothing. Is it possible or do I just not recognize the different odors and just feel like i smell nothing.

so you mean to tell me that if you blindfolded, you wouldnt be able to differentiate between the smell of dog poop from the smell of dank nuggets? thats a damn shame.

my best friends dad worked in a plant where they produced various types of caustic acid...
over the years the acid fumes burned the interior of his nose and he had no sense of smell... which also affects how things taste...
hopefully you don't work at the acid plant or the "yayo" plant either...

that's the other thing...i'm not sure if it affects my sense of taste. i eat the same things all the time and think it may be because of my lack of sense of smell. i have no idea though and it really doesn't bother me, so i've never told a doctor about it. i was just wondering if anyone knew something about this.

Does picking your nose remove the scent glands? I had boogers that I could swear were part of my being.
Bleach can mess you up too

I'm the exact same way. I can barely smell anything. I have never in my entire life smelled "bad breath", either on myself (and I'm not implying I've never had it... I've definitely tasted it) or on anyone else. It takes a really rank fart or B.O. to get my attention. I also DESPISE any smell besides gasoline. I can't stand perfume, cologne, candles, incense, etc. I always wondered if that had something to do with my weak sense of smell, although I can't think of a direct connection.

You must save tons of money on deodorant and perfume. Only $1.57 for a gallon of eau de saudi arabia.

Although there are people with congenital lack of ability to smell, most people are born with the ability.
It is not uncommon to lose the sense of smell after a head injury. Polyps in the nasal cavity can also cause this loss so you should see an ENT guy to check that out.
My mother experienced a temporary loss of the sense of smell (and taste) while undergoing radiation therapy following her mascectomy. Her doctor told her that this is not unusual. Fortunately, it was only a temporary loss, and it returned within a few months after radiation ceased.

This is what I know about the sense of smell that has not already been said. Studies have shown that people who lose their sense of smell also show a marked drop in sex drive. I guess it has to do with pheremones or something.
