OK, well here is a question. Im moving to California. Im pretty excited about it, but at the same time Im scared out of my mind because I am close with my family and friends and I am going to be so far away. Does anyone have experience in this? How do you get passed the initial fear of being so far away frm everyone you care so deeply about? There is no turning back in my going so that is not an option. Any words of inspiration would help greatly. Thanks.

I travel a lot for business, and being in California for almost a week and a half, I found it very easy to ingratiate myself into the crowd and the culture. They are not like New Yorkers at all...very friendly and very beautiful people. I would take every opportunity to immerse yourself in as much as possible. Cali is a great place to live. I hope to move there eventually myself. You can still post here on the board. We would be happy to be your connection to home, hooking you up with whatever we can to keep you in contact with the east coast.

You'll love it. I've been to Cali a few times and it's great. It's defintely a different mindset, but still good people. I'd love to go there again, haven't been in a few years. Gotta see the wine country.

Sure, any kind of big move has its tough spots, but you'll do fine. Cali is definitely a nice place to move, and you've done better for locations than my choices. I have heard that people are harder to meet and get to know on the West Coast than here....and that from friends who have grown up on one side or the other.
I'm sure you'll have a tough time living with all the sunshine and mostly warm weather. :) And since you can still get R&F via the internet, you should be doing just fine....keep in touch!

I've had quite a bit of experience in relocation. I would travel between my mom and dad (NJ and Texas) every summer since I was 4. Then I decided I wanted to go to Texas for college even though I was schooled my whole life in Jersey. I was the only person who didn't know anyone at school and it was a huge change, but I loved it eventually.
I've also had to move to Houston and just recently Dallas (knowing few people) and I think the key is not to have too many expectations and just let things happen. You can't force anything so just go there relaxed, open minded and willing to learn and adapt to where you are. Good luck, living on a beach in Cali sounds like heaven.
