View Full Version : Why Is It About Cue Balls That Makes Them Magical?

So I'm playing pool with some friends the other night and I began to wonder the age old question. How is it that when you scratch the cue ball, the pool table somehow knows to return that ball, but not other balls. I mean if you sink another ball and the cue at the same time even, the table somehow knows which to return. What is it that makes the table do this?

I remembered wondering this also and I think it has to do with the weight of the ball.

I always though it was because the cue ball is slightly larger.

There is no such thing as magic.
I believe that Clarke was the one who said, technology sufficiently advanced from our own is indistinguishable from magic. I'd hope that simple mechanics do not fall into this realm. The cue ball is very slightly larger than the other balls on the table. Some tables use magnets in cue balls. It's not complex.
