I was considering deleting out very old topics to speed up board performance. What do you guys think? As this board builds and more posts are added, its just going to get slower and slower over time.

Not doing anything yet...just asking what you guys think....

It depends. If the thread was based around a horribly crappy topic and got like 2 replies and 6 views, delete it. But more popular threads should stick around.

And would posts be deducted from your post count for every old post deleted?

I agree with McNadd, or if it's possible: archive anything older than a certain amount of time to a seperate domain, of course that's just more work.

In any case, my vote is yes.

I think it's always important when a mod speaks to our penises.

And I'm with McNabb. Dump the shitty threads, keep anything with over 20 replies.

I also agree. If the topic never got much response, dump it. Also, If there are old topics that haven't been touched in over, say, 6 months, might as well get rid of them too, since they obviously lost interest. Or at least close them.

It sounds like a good idea. It seems now so many threads get started, and someone goes back two years to link to a similar thread.

Keeping an archive is important, but anything over a year old isn't really needed. I don't think we're gonna talk about Crossroads or the 2002 Playoffs anymore.

Crossroads is one of the most important cinematic experiences of the 21st Century.

Did God get rid of His original writings when he came up with the Jesus angle? Did the Brady's get rid of the original 6 when they adopted Oliver? Did the coca-cola company throw away the recipe for classic coke when they came up with the new crap? the answer is NO! An archive is the way to go; we wont be able to add to them, but it's a part of our history and our children, and our children's children will need to know how life was lived at the turn of the century. Surely, there's some dark corner of Foundrymusic where we can preserve the evidence of our humble beginnings, and still speed up the board at the same time. You say "archive", I say "OURchive". Thank you.

I have no idea what the criteria would be to dumping old posts, but go ahead if you want to.

How about deleting posts you locked instead of having them sit there?

You have to keep the historical integrity intact. I say if youre getting rid of shit, keep it to the duplicate threads and lame ones with no good old board members in them. you cant delete anything that Gwen posted in for example. The board hasnt gotten slower anyway.

Mad props to Fluff for the sig and C.O.soup for hosting!

About futher site modifications...and this was the closest I saw as being a thread on that...

When you go to "Today's active discussions", would it be possible to somehow make it possible so that you can jump to the latest page of each discussion? Yeah, I know, it's just another click, but I was just wondering. And would it be possible to put the "active discussions" link in the different forums, or even the threads themselves? I don't know if it's my computer, but the dates and times of when the lastest posts were from the board's main page are never right and are usually off by a good 12-24 hours.

Just some ideas.
