I've been feeling the same way lately.

Every time I restart my computer or turn it off the little progress bar freezes and it takes up to a week sometimes to start up again.

Pieces of shit make them this way so I have to buy a new one every 2 years.

I feel your pain man. I just got a new comp a couple of months ago and it is so much better. I am sorry if you cannot afford a new one. I wouldn't have been able to either if my grandma didn't take pity on me and Grim Sanity hadn't hooked me up with his great comp store.

All I can suggest is constant ScanDisks, Defrags, Disc Clean ups and Virus scans. Oh, and SpyBot after every web surfing session.

I'll be in the middle of typing something, and the fucker freezes up, and I have to restart the computer. I was playing Alchemy on pogo.com the other day, I was one point away from finishing the final level, and the computer just shuts off. I almost threw it through the screen door.

Well pinkfloyd, do you do those things regularly? I'd defrag like every week and virus scan the same. Do a disc clean up like every week too. It sucks having all the board sigs cache again, but it frees up precious space.

And Spybot is great. It kills spyware and I'm sure that anyone on the board could tell you where to get it free or mail it to you.
