OK, I was at the Mets game yesterday when they announced that Bob Murphy would be retiring from the broadcast booth at the end of the season. Not exactly shocking news...in fact, a columnist in the Post broke the story about a week ago.
So the crowd gives him a nice ovation, the entire Mets team salutes him from the top step of the dugout, and even some of the Reds are applauding out in the field.
And then it happens: they start playing a Carpenters song on the loudspeaker, "Yesterday Once More", and my eyes are filling with tears:

Every Wo-wo-wo
Still shines
Every shing-a-ling-a-ling
That they're starting to sing's
So fine
When they get to the part
Where he's breakin' her heart
It can really make me cry
Just like before
It's yesterday once more
I went to the men's room a short while later, and I'm happy to report that my balls were still there.
It is a catchy song, don't ya think?
