Soldiers KIA: What does govt. do for families?

Sorry if there was a post on it already. I tried to search but too many pages came back.

Now that the US is proactively aiding other countries and fighting the war on terrorism. With the military all over the place it increases the chances of harm towards our soldiers.

My question concerns what happens when a soldier is killed during their military duty (whether it be killed in action, by friendly fire, or by a freak accident), what happens afterwards in regards to the deceasesd soldiers family/spouse/significant other. Does the goverment aid the family in any way? Do they recieve any benefits? And for how long is the commitment?

Well they all have life insurance of course, but The family members may also be able to keep the military benifits for awhile too, I dont know, but Berg does and if he doesnt, he'll be able to find the answer.

I think the family gets like $6000 at first to bury the deceased, then another $3000 to $4000 for some help with bills or something.

i know everyone that's killed gets a flag.

i'd be curious to see if they follow what alot of corporations do where they pay you twice or three times your yearly salary if you die or get killed on the job...

guess i could do a googles or yahoo search too...
