View Full Version : I HATE having to treat wounds.

This is so gay.
Now this is not a macho thing. It's more of an inconvenience.
That goddamn toothpick wound I got like 2-3 weeks ago is still giving me a problem. I am walking almost completely free of a limp of any kind now. I have also been playing the drums like I always did.
But now this week it seems the wound opened up and is starting to give me a problem again. I stated to notice my sock sticking to my foot one night, and it was puss. So now my little wound is pussing and giving off some sort of oily discharge with a little blood too.
Since it was open again and not giving me bad pain I squeezed it every which way to try and get any splinters that I might have missed out. I got nothing, so I am pretty sure there are no toothpick splinters in my foot.
I'm used to just letting cuts and scrapes heal on their own, but now I will have to pamper the area and this is really pissing me off. I have to clean it with peroxide and put a bandaid on it to keep shit out of it.
So there's not much I can do about it, just whine here. Did you like it?

You still haven't sought medical attention yet? I know from your earlier post that you don't have insurance. But hospitals have charity care that you can apply for that will at least pay for part of your visit and you can pay in installments as low as like $5.00 a month. Get thee to a doctor. Better safe than sorry.

Moe, go to a doctor. Make an appointment today and get medical advice, this is serious.

Well if this keeps up too much longer I will have no choice but to have someone look at it. I KNOW all they're gonna tell me is to stay off it, keep it clean and then they'll give me some antibiotics or some shit, so I'm not ready to run to the doctor just yet.
Plus I am broker than a pissed on nickel.

Moe, if you can get your foot to your mouth, try kissing it. Or try blowing it kisses. always works.

soak your foot in some really hot/warm water so your wound can release an puss or blood or anything else thats in there (possibly any toothpick pieces as well). then put some peroxide on it and a band-aid. you should soak it every night, just to make sure. but i'd still go see a doctor as soon as possible, before anything gets any worse.

As I am a carpenter, I get this shit all the time. I operate on myself frequently. I see a doctor if the work digging out some splinter or metal shard or whatever causes such pain that I feel faint.
Look Moe, the puss tells you you've got something in there, 'cause that's what your body does- it surrounds the foreign object with puss and then that'll work it's way to the surface eventually.
If you want to go in now, get you a new utility knife blade, dip it in some rubbing alcohol if you don't feel adventurous, and use it to open that bad boy up so you can see in there to get the foreign object out. When I can see it, I cut parallel to it, taking care not to cut the splinter. The ones that go straight in are the most challenging, especially if it's a piece of glass that you have to avoid breaking during removal. Tweezers work ok for digging it out, but sometimes you need some sort of poker as well.
I like to go to work after about 4 shots of scotch (current fave- Bushmill's). I like to have just enough to get some numbness and an "aw fuck-it" attitude, while still retaining dexterity.
When you're done and have flushed out the remaining puss, hold that wound open and get some sugar in there.
What I do is make a big bandaid out of duct tape and a lil' chunk of napkin or toilet paper that is just the size and shape of the wound.
I get that sugar down in there and in a little pile over the wound, then carefully put the bandage over it. The bandage is designed to hold the sugar in place as it kills the infection.
And yes, not only will sugar kill the infection (by sucking out the water in the cells of the bacteria) but it'll do so better than any first aid cream I've used.

In all honesty, puss will come before infection, which precedes gagrene. You dont want gangrene because the only remedy is amputation. I never heard of sugaring a wound, but I too have done some at-home surgery with super sharp and clean blades and I flush the incision with peroxide as Im working. I know the waiting rooms a pain in the ass in the hospital, but Id rather see you walking around on your own than using a wheel chair or crutches or a prosthesis. Serious, by the time you see dark puss or smelly discharge or darkening skin, it will be too late. If you never see these symptoms, your body will keep surrounding the foreign body with clear puss and youll develop tough skin over it to protect it, then, years later, the item will edge its way to the skins surface and youll be free of it. Just remember the warning sings I described earlier.

What a sweet idea. I use ALOT of sugar too. I got some in my peehole by fucking my sugarbowl. My urethra never felt better.

That's always a good way to do it, but I prefer a Leatherman for on the job surgery. It's much easier to hold than a utilty blade and the pliers make great tweezers. There's also the built in assortment of pokers to use. It never let me down.

SPY REPORT!
I was cleaning out my foot again and I got a big surprise! As I was squeezing the area for some more puss, out came an inch long piece of toothpick! It was one of the strangest and grossest things I've ever seen. It was so ready to come out that it actually shot out of the wound.
So all this time there WAS something in there. And here I thought I got the wood out.
So now my little wound can finally begin to heal for good. I got the peroxide in there hardcore, and got a bandaid on it again.
Thanks for everyone's suggestions. I was also a carpenter for a few years and am no stranger to minor operations to remove foreign bodies. But no need now!
I thought the strange feeling I had in there was just a little swelling from the puncture. But it was the toothpick.
Oh well. I've been walking around pretty normally for a week or so now, so I hope things will fully recover soon.

Then again, I'm intrigued by the assortment of pokers.
I once had a splinter in my finger that was so long, I couldn't bend my elbow, but that's another story...
