View Full Version : Examples of America's Excess Culture

Now I must start out any thread that may go Anit-US by saying that I Love the US. It is the Best....Thing....Going...Today.
And you may not LIKE it, but you will LEARN TO LOVE IT! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
But our culture is so wasteful and full of excessive behaviors that it staggers the mind.
I thought about it when I looked at my 44 ounce Quick Check soda. That is A LOT of soda! We eat and drink FAR too much. You should NOT be able to eat ALL YOU CAN EAT! Meals should be enjoyed.
Then I go to the store, and we get a large box of Cheese It snack bags. It's like 30 small bags in a box. Now all that is garbage for about the same ammount of Cheese Its that come in a large box.
These may not be the best examples, but you get the idea. These were 2 recent examples that made me take a step back again. And no ammount of recycling will help shit like that. For everything we recycle I could think of 3 things that my food comes packaged in that has foil or plastic in it that isn't recycleable.
So what of it board?

Well in that pic, maybe. But only because Kate looks so bad.
I will admit she can look cute, but she's just OK.
Lopez is an ugly skank. Period. She can take her ass and go back to wherever the hell she came from.

It was an example of excess that was at home for me. My family bought it no problem, like so many other people. And we'll probably buy them again if my Mother finds another coupon. It just made me think is all.

Why in the world would someone, other than military personnel, need to drive a Hummer???
Why? Because we can.
There was an article in the NY Times in April that posed this question and reached the same conclusion. I can't link to it because of its age but I'll Dr0p a few of the bon mots.
In Their Hummers, Right Beside Uncle Sam (April 4, 2003. NY Times)
.But some Hummer drivers, inundated like the rest of America by war news, feel especially patriotic behind the wheel now.
"When I turn on the TV, I see wall-to-wall Humvees, and I'm proud," said Sam Bernstein, a 51-year-old antiquities dealer who lives in Marin County, Calif., and drives a Hummer H2, an S.U.V. sibling of the military Humvee. "They're not out there in Audi A4's," he said of the troops. "I'm proud of my country, and I'm proud to be driving a product that is making a significant contribution.".
.Rick Schmidt, founder of I.H.O.G., the International Hummer Owners Group, said: "In my humble opinion, the H2 is an American icon. Not the military version by any means, but it's a symbol of what we all hold so dearly above all else, the fact we have the freedom of choice, the freedom of happiness, the freedom of adventure and discovery, and the ultimate freedom of expression." "Those who deface a Hummer in words or deed," he added, "deface the American flag and what it stands for.".
.Travis Patterson, 35, an Air Force veteran who lives in Arlington, Tex., said: "To me, the Hummer, the H1, is the most American vehicle on the planet. It oozes patriotism. You put some flags on the Hummer and drive down the road and everyone is honking and waving at you.".
Of course the Times has to quote a commie liberal as well:
Not every veteran appreciates them. Erik Gustafson, 31, drove Humvees a few times as a specialist in the gulf war, where he served as an engineer. "It always bothers me whenever I see them," said Mr. Gustafson, who has founded a group that opposes the war. "At a time when oil prices are already sky high and given how oil politics play into these conflicts, it strikes me as irresponsible."
I suggest we adopt this old lyric from Springsteen as our official national motto:
You want it
You take it
You pay the price

Fuck "all you can eat".
Price Club, Costco, super-size, WHATEVER. But "all you can eat" is for the weak and useless.
Unless you're fat or trying to become fat, it serves no healthy or logical purpose.
And I have no time for fat fatties full of fat. You're a burden on the health care system, and I hate you. Well, not hate, but unless you have a REAL medical problem, it's just pathetic.
Especially when there's so many freakin' hungry and starving kids in this country. Now excuse me while I go FedEx this sandwich to Kentucky.

I have a great, current example of our cultural excess. While America masterbates to the orgy of celebrity news tonight (Kobe Bryant and Arnold for Governor), this is happening, Iran is close to nukes (http://www.msnbc.com/news/949171.asp?0cv=CB10), and you will hear a peep about it, at most.
There was a ceremony in Tehran two weeks ago to welcome the newest missile to Iran's arsenal - a missile designed in North Korea.
So while the Anti-American dream team gets together, all anybody cares about is an alleged rapist and a actor running for Governor.
