Father takes baby on armed robbery

An Australian father has taken his eight-month-old baby boy with him on an armed robbery.

The masked, knife-wielding man held up a fast food restaurant then escaped with his son in a stolen car, Perth Senior Constable Ralph Stevenson said.

The man later dumped the vehicle and walked with the child to a nearby bar where he started drinking, he said.

He said the man appeared to be on drugs and had tried to swallow some unidentified pills after staff at the bar called the police.

Officers were looking after the baby - who was safe and well - until they found the child's mother.

The father is likely to be charged with armed robbery and car theft.
