It doesn't have to be just dogs but I can't remember anyone saying they have a pet that is special, drools, or has a really large forehead. I have asked others and they say "yeah, i've seen dogs with only 3 legs"....that doesn't mean retarded that simply means they don't have 4 legs...so anyway, are there any dogs named corky in this world or is 'mentally disabled' reserved for human beings?

I just got an email from a friend in Holland saying that with all the heat they are having in Europe, people don't know what to do. Her next door neighbor left their dog in the car for a half an hour in 100 degree heat and it suffered brain damage. Sad. So I guess that would be a retarded dog now.

Depends on how you're defining retarded. In the sense of drooling and having big foreheads, as you might expect to find with people who have trisomy of the 21st chromosome (causing Down Syndrome), that wouldn't have the same effect on dogs, as they have 39 pairs of chromosomes as opposed to the 23 pairs humans have. I don't know what trisomy of the 21st chromosome in a dog would cause. Anyway, it would depend on your definition of retardation.

from what i can recall too cute, the vet said when he told my uncle the dog had it, when the gene types of those 2 are mixed, it just is more likely to develope. i dont think outside factors have anything to do with it
