Has anyone else fought through this Blaster worm yet? Man, it sucked. If you haven't downloaded the patch yet you can get it through this MSNBC page.

Blaster worm article (http://www.msnbc.com/news/951393.asp?0cv=CB20)

Don't fool around with this one; apparently you can get it just from being on-line - you don't have to open an attachment or anything.
And you know how attached some of us get to their computers these evenings.

This was one of the worst days at work for me. A bunch of pc's in my office, including my boss's came down with this virus. I had the presence of mind to add the patch to fix this weeks ago on my pc, and when asked about 2 weeks ago if we need to do anything to prevent this virus, I told them to get the patch. No one ever did. Today I had to go and remove the nasty virus from my boss's computer, it wasn't easy at all but I ultimately got it De1eted.

The rest of the PCs were such a pain in the ass because they're all locked down with administrative passwords that I don't have..yet I'm the admin.

Three of the PCs are presently still not fixed, and I heard that hundreds of thousands of pc's in my company had this virus.

If you have Windows 2000 or XP, get the latest Upd@tes and virus Upd@tes right away to avoid this headache.

One of the things you'll notice is the system will continuously shut itself down
and crash. Or numerous normal functions in windows will just not work. The virus
also has the potential to have an attacker completely take over your system.

Here's a link to the Microsoft site with info on the patch to fix this...

Here's a link to the Symantec site with info on the virus...

Here's an article from PC World as well...

Since I have Windows ME, which isn't affected by this virus, I don't need the patch. However, my computer sucks, cuz it does most of what this virus does, except for the computer and computer programs mysteriously restarting themselves. Sometimes Aol will have to shut down cuz of an error, along with other programs as well. I think this computer is way too overused. It's only about 3 years old, but it's used constantly.

We have had viruses before, but we either quarantined them or had to completely erase the computer and upload Windows all over again. I think we might still have some viruses that are currently quarantined, so I might have to get rid of them. Simply deleting them didn't work.

O, and does anyone else have a problem trying to get Windows Upd@te to work? When I try to use it, it simply freezes on me mid-download. I asked some friends if this happened to them, but they said that Windows Upd@te worked for them. And I know this virus makes the host computers attack Windows Upd@te, so I'm wondering if thats maybe why it hasn't been working for me (btw this has been goin' on for about a month or two.)

Makin' my own sigs cuz I'm still unknown on this site and too lazy to ask anyone else to make them for me.

If it were just happening today I'd say it was understandable since Microsoft's site is getting pounded from people trying to get the Upd@tes. Since it's been going on a while, it sounds more like a browser issue. What version of Internet Explorer are you using? I am using 6.0 with no problems.

I've got Internet Explorer 6 now. I've had it for I'm guessin' a week or so. The amounts of errors I get have gone done, but when they do occur the either knock me offline from AOL or occur in such amounts that my computer completely fucks up and I have to restart. It shows errors until the screen blanks out and then you get that blue screen telling you what type of error has occurred and whether or not you want to restart or continue using Windows and blah blah blah...It just get's really annoying.

I've been trying to download the Upd@tes over AOL, but I'll try it over IE to see if anything happens.

Melrapuo, you have windows me... lol, just kidding, but windows me sucks.

I'm doing a virus scan right now, but I dont think I've contracted anything. This is basically the only site I visit. I will download this patch just in case I somehow get this. I just hope that these hacker assholes dont find a way to bypass the patch!

Yea I know Sat...Windows ME does suck. When I tried to use Windows Upd@te over IE, it froze (the IE program). When I tried to cancel the program (you know...ctrl-alt-De1ete and then "end task") it didn't work. And when I clicked on the tab for IE, my computer once again shows the blue screen and tells me an error has occurred...

So I had to restart the comp. again. And scandisk sucks, cuz it detects errors, but when I try to fix them it has to restart itself and it still detects the same errors again. And I can't even defragment anything. This computer fuckin' sucks!

I've gotta get a new version of Windows badly. Or maybe a new computer. Wow...that would be nice. Then I could finally play Command & Conquer: Generals that's been sittin' on my desk unused for the past 3 months.

If you have your original windows cd handy, you can run a little program in your Windows folder called SFC, you can launch it by going to the Start menu, and under Run type in SFC, I believe that will launch the file. SFC is short for System File Checker, this may help in finding and repairing corrupted files. You may have a corrupted file that's causing IE to hang during Windows Upd@te.

If SFC finds a corrupted or missing file, it will ask for the Windows CD to make the repair.

Would this virus affect any streams I might be using? I was on live365.com and it kept cutting out until I downloaded the patch!

just got back online just a short while ago. i was able to do research at work on how to get the fucker out, and was able to convince my family why we need a firewall (it's been an uphill battle). got the patches, remover, and a firewall tonight. pm me if you need a run-through for someone else.

won't we be laughing when an applescript virus comes out and does nothing to our machines. hahaha... but seriously, since they can make hybrid programs, how soon before there's hybrid viruses?

Ahhhhh! I had this happen yesterday too and it sucked. We already got something from the IT people but I was hoping we wouldn't until today so I could have left work yesterday.

I don't have any work to do that's not on the computer so I had to sit there while it restarted whenever it wanted. (or apparently whenver it was scanning for viruses)

no hacker wastes their time with a mac.

I have a PII at 450 mhz and I would run Command and Conquer perfectly on Windows 98. I have yet to try it in Windows 2000.

And reeshy, it might've just been a coincidence. You should shut down to clear your cache and start the stream again. If you're using dial-up, your connection was probably choppy and it's was buffering a lot. You probably had a slow connecton yesterday.

Oh shit, I realized this is what I had. About a week ago my computer started going WACKY. A window would pop up saying Windows will restart in 45 seconds and a count down starts. This happened dozens of times until eventually it totally fucked up my computer beyond repair (I sure as hell wasn't spending 300 bucks to get that piece of shit fixed.)

So I had to buy a new computer and now I'm protecting myself from all viruses as much as I can. Make sure you DOWNLOAD the windows Upd@te NOW!

OK guys, question.

My sister apparently got the virus on the home computer and I have to send here exactly what she needs to run to fix it.

Is that patch link in the first 2 posts what I should send her or what? They gave me something at work but I think that was for our network computers and not a personal one. I'm so clueless.

stress that she not only has to apply the patch (yes that link is sufficient or you can download the .exe and email it to her) but also install/Upd@te her virus scanning s/w to kill it. Just putting on the patch will cut down on the spread, but she's already infected.

I have been using Linux and Mac OS X(BSD based) for past 2 years. patches are easily fixed.
