Ok..lots of stuff to talk about regarding this..but what bothers me, is that he is asking Congress for 87 Billion Dollars!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to aid Iraq and Afghanistan. This is on top of moneys spent on Military. Wouldnt the People of the U.S. be better served having that money used for Jobs, Economy, Disease research, Roads, Schools.. etc..?

I knew we were gonna pay for ousting Hussein, but i didnt think we were prepared to bankrupt ourselves for these people.

I believe he needs to do it and he will ultimately get the money for this.

I also believe that while you're correct in your concerns for the money to be used here instead of there. That there is also growing evidence that the economy is turning around. It won't be overnight, but likely within the next year. Just in time for an election.

Though I would like to see that kind of money put to use here as well though.

I think his reasoning is if we don't spend the money fighting terrorism there won't be much of a country left to build an economy for.

There is a threat that is being delt with, for a price.

Bush is doing a fine job, with a fine staff and administration. It is a shame that Ari Fleischer had to go - he really put some of those pathetic libs in their place! Rumsfeld is still the best with the demeanor thing going full blast.

Get used to it, folks, it is for your own good anyway.

And I don't blame any Dems out there for hiding their head in the sand and being all in a tizzy - after all, we all had to endure Clinton for way too long, so we all know how it feels.

Behold, the All-Knowing Being who tells NO lie...

Ok Bush is not going to be re-elected, simply because he's doing a crap job with the economy (something Clinton, if you've forgotten, did quite well with). With foreign policy, Bush is doing quite well, but between Iraq, terrorism and the "Roadmap to Peace" (another thing started by Clinton's administration), it seems that Bush isn't able to handle all the pressure, or take care of the problems he's faced with.

Time for you to suffer as we all did with that Clinton guy running things with his ween.

Wow...like Clinton was the ONLY politician to get BJ's while in office. SHOCKING. Must we always refer to that? Everyone seems to use that as an excuse to why they believe Clinton did a bad job (which he didn't. He was a reasonably good president).

And why must there always be finger pointing? Ok, so information about possible terror attacks came in during the Clinton administration, but we've gotta realize that its the entire government's fault for the fact that none of this was dealt with before 9/11 or any other terrorist event occurred. It's all the government's fault, and probably the citizens too. Stop with the scapegoats.

This forum is pathetic.

Has politics become some type of new sports fanatism for people, where regardless of the individual attributes of the teams' from year to year, we're just rooting for franchises?

I'm a Mets fan, but I know that they suck.

Luckily, my job, health, future, and quality of life don't depend on weather or not they win a penant.

I don't dislike Bush because he's a Republican, I dislike his administration because while he has been in office I have not seen tangible improvement in my life. 87 billion more for a war that was sold on a hodgepodge of truth, exageration, and outright fiction. Now, the UN and the international community "HAVE" to help? Why? We were the all powerful, go it alone, America the beautiful, we don't need anyone, all of three months ago.

Sorry, I'm not buying this bullshit again, and sadly it seems that facts and reality do not factor into most people's opinions about politics.

I say, when November 4th rolls around, lets just go all out and have tailgating bbq's at the polls stations, with face's painted and kegs galore. Republicans can eat nuts, while Democrats ride asses. It'll be a grand old time.

Silera, the fact is, as much as you don't like the whole forum here, if someone decides to make up a topic about something that does not interest you - you are free to move along. No one is forcing you to say something about it.
Now, are you saying that with the Bush administration you do not see any personal improvement in your life, but with Clinton in office, you did see personal improvement in your life? It is sort of a silly notion that you are relying on who is the President to change your life.

Bush is doing a fantastic job, and there is no doubt that he will be here thankfully until 2008. The question is, which Republican will he pass the baton to in 2008, because Cheney will not run, he does not desire the job (which is part of what makes him an excellent VP).

By the way, if all this "Bunny" crap is supposed to be an insult, it ain't working w/me, it is like water off a duck's beak.

This forum is pathetic, not because of the topics but because of the consistent construction of arguments as pro Bush/republican or pro Clinton/Democrat.

How exactly am I supposed to judge if I like or dislike someone's performance if not by their performance's direct affect on me? What do I care if corporations and the rich are getting returns on their taxes? Yes, while Clinton was in office, I'll have you know that my income more than doubled. Of course, it was a combination of a good economy, which he did not create but did help foster, and my personal growth and hard work.

Since Bush has taken office, I have worked two jobs to simply pay bills. So, I'm earning more and guess what, I'm paying a lot more to simply get buy. Again, it's not all his fault. The economy sucks as a result of 9-11 and just common backlash of an overinflated stock market. However, his attempts to fix it have been lacking. The gains purported by his tax plan are superficial and are far outweighed by his PHENOMONAL spending on a war launched simply to show the world that America has the biggest dick.

I'd suggest that you start reading a little more before you decide to show me the door to the Politics forum Neo. You're not the one.

I think your problem is that you think you know it all. Take a look around and read up before you try to start schooling me on how the politics forum works. It may be to your convenience to assume that my opinions on the war were formed by some propoganda bullshit being spun now by democratic candidates who that didn't have the balls to stand up for anything when it was still worth it. However, I have stated too many times to count why I didn't think it was a good move, and it has nothing to do with liberal bullshit or a love and peace hippie dream.

We've spread ourselves thin and not addressed the homefront before running off half cocked and unprepared. The only task now is cleaning up our mess. The economic and political repercussions of our actions in Iraq will haunt us for the next 20 years. Many thought that our victory would prove to the world, and to terrorists, that America has the power, wherewithall, and resources to bring them down. Thus far, we have yet to come close to that goal.

So, we have no WMDs, no Osama, no Saddam, more casualties after victory than before, and a 200 billion dollar deficit.

Yeah, I call that a win on our side.

Now that your fellow libs are trying to find fault, they point to the 16 words out of thousands that President Bush said regarding intelligence information that ended up being found as partially unreliable. But don't misconstrue.

There's exactly what Silera was talking about. If SOME "liberals/leftists/Democrats" think a certain way or say a certain thing, well "the rest of them" must fall into line. This "my club is better than your club mentality" is pathetic. The absolute lack of an ability to look at Bush in a critical light over ANYTHING by those on his side is laughable. Clinton was continually raked (And rightly so) by the press, his own politicians and Democrats around the country while also having die-hard supporters, but not either or. Yes, they are people who find fault with everything Bush does just because of what he is, but at the same time, he gets close to ZERO criticism from anyone who claims to be "on the right" or a "conservative" that it's just ridiculous at this point. I fully understand "supporting your guy", but this has gotten to the point where it seems like he CAN'T be wrong on anything.

And yes, I probably am doing the generalizing I was just railing against, but hey, just like the complaints that "liberals never have anything good to say about Bush", "conservatives never have anything bad to say about Bush." We need to meet in the middle ground where we realize that these mutts in office, no matter WHAT party, are NOT untouchable.

While debating Bush vs other candidates for President wasnt my intention in starting this thread ( it was frustration at how much money we are giving people who hate our guts while Americans are out of work)...the fact i realise is..that what BUSH is doing now and has done with the War DOES effect each of our way of life. Im not saying im against the war - i firmly believe we had to oust Saddam, and break up his terror network. I just dont approve of spending more money than we can afford. THis debt will exist for decades. I want to have Social Security when i retire - couldnt that 87 billion be put towards that?? My only critisism right now is that Bush is acting like a teenage girl with her mommies AMEX gold card.

I know what you're arguing against, but we are now in a position where we cannot afford to NOT spend this money in Iraq.

Whether you supported the war or were steadfast against it, we have totally overthrown the country / government, and we HAVE to put some sort of stable government in there before we can even think about leaving. There is NO other option available to us. It's no longer a matter of "that money is better spent in America!" We HAVE to spend the money there.

I agree and that pisses me off... both agreeing with you and knowing that the only way out of this mess is pouring more money into it.

I just hope we as a people can wise up and realize who got us into this mess when we step into those little booths in November.

Hopefully whoever takes the office next will know better than to pull the plug on the whole operation. I think as long as he doesn't address the UN with a chip on his shoulder and isn't named "Bush," We just may get some help.

Alas, finally a point where I have to agree (mostly)with Se7en. (I hope I don't get thrown out of the Liberal's union.)

We broke Iraq; we have to pay to fix it. All the policy questions about whether we should have invaded are moot. The only nit I would pick with Se7en's analysis is that a lot of that money (after the costs of our military and the bribes we're paying to some of the Iraqis to be our friends) is going to go to contractors (eg. Halliburton) to start (re)building the electrical, water, oil fields, etc. infrastructure for the Iraqis so they have a chance at a modern economy, which is a prerequisite for a pro-Western government. Where we have to give in to the Europeans and Russia is to cut them in on the action so they want to pony up some of the heavy seed money to get a crack at the lucrative contracts for when Iraq does get the oil pumping again. Hey, if France wants its taxpayers to pay Schlumberger to build the Iraqis som pipeline rather than us paying Halliburton, I'm not gonna cry about it. (Cuz I don't own stock in either.)

Very true.

We're there, you can't change what happened, might as well see it through to make sure things are done right. And we should accept as much assistance as possible, too. Now is not the time for pride or arrogance.

This probably will mark the beginning of an institutionalized presence in Iraq similar to the U.S. presence in Germany, Japan and Korea.
