Ok, who is less clueless on computers?
The post I am writing now is in italics. I had a computer meltdown today, and now a lot of things are in Italics. Not everything, just thread text. And I mean for ALL; all your posts are in Italics on my computer now.
'my inbox' 'preferences' etc = italics
'Message Board' 'Start New Discussion' = not italics
I know this is a simple fix somewhere in the control panel [im on WinXP] but I just spent 15 mins in there, and my cluelessness has only been confirmed.
Help!
Anyone?
Beuller?

There are several fonts that are basic but vital to the Windows system. You should have the following fonts installed on your system, Marlett, Arial, Times New Roman, Comic Sans, Common Bullets. Make sure you see the font Marlett though, it's a pretty vital font file.

you'll need to give more details-
it kind of sounds like your computer might be running hot and needs to cool down. if your progs, internet connection, etc.. work, just shut it down for 45 minutes

No Marlet font in 'fonts' on control panel.
As for heat issue; it's fine. I've had it off for hours, and right on boot up it occurs.
I think I deleted a font.

I found this info in a search through google with regards to other people having the same problem under XP. I have XP and have never had this problem, but this might be the fix...
">All plain text in all programs is in italics or bold, I can't get any
>ordinary text at all.
Right click on a clear spot on your desktop and choose Properties. Click on the
Appearance tab. You can choose the font for the item you want to change from
there."
aside from that, I also found this suggestion below with regards to the same problem, though it seems a little more radical.
"System Restore might revert things back to how they were before.
To change the look of Window elements (From Help and Support)
Open Display in Control Panel.
On the Appearance tab, click Advanced.
In the Item list, click the element you want to change, such as Window, Menu, or Scrollbar, and then adjust the appropriate settings, such as color, font, or font size.
Click OK or Apply to save your changes.
To open Display, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Display.
Your changes are saved until you make further changes or choose a different theme.
Changing the look of individual items is only useful if you select Windows Classic in the Windows and buttons list on the Appearance tab. If you select a different option, the theme determines the appearance of your menus, fonts, icons, and other Window elements.
The Font area will be unavailable for elements in the Item list that do not display text. "

post a screen shot with the relevant fonts highlighted - it's probably the font settings in IE - Internet Options - Fonts

Oh pretty please if you can remember how you fixed the "everything in italics" problem I'm dying to know. For almost a year I have tolerated it and I can't any longer. Programs like Counter-Strike and even things like the 'my favorites' bar in Internet Explorer are in italics.

I have solved the the great "everything italics" mystery. The Arial font was replaced with a 1k arial shortcut. All the arial fonts in different applications didn't have a file to goto, so they went to the next thing which was the arial italics.
Simply delete the invalid font (in my case the shortcut) and the next time you boot up Windows should restore the font with the default font.

That's gonna be difficult considering the I put the laptop through one of my walls shortly after that happened.
Tech support didn't think my solution was valid.
Did you know this voids the warrantee?
