I saw my friend cut his finger off.

We were in the shop at work and he had the table saw on. He ripped down some plywood and stepped away leaving the saw running. He came back and his hand just hit the blade and his fucking ring finger just fell off. And this isnt the first time hes done this.
He was in so much pain and there was so much blood. An ambulance came right away and He should be ok.
It was just a bad thing to watch.

its not so graphic, but i have a funny table saw story

apparently this table saw is very fast, and our teacher always said it could shoot wood really fast. anyway, i was cuttin a piece of oak on it and wisely, like i often am, didnt put the kickback device in. anyway, i get through the board and a piece of wood shoots back past my side and drilled the shop teacher right in the ass, put him on the floor.
it had to be goin a good 50 miles per, and it was funny as shit.

Snoogans thats funny. Ive done that before in my shop at home and put a small hole in the wall.

And my friend should be ok.Lucky it wasnt the whole finger -but he took off an inch or two. He got to the hospital really fast and my boss said the doctors were very reasuring.

I think I told this story before you joined the board, but I watched a friend get stabbed. I can see how someone getting his finger cut off can be pretty bad, but don't be a bitch. Stabbing>lost finger

here's a few incidents my Pop and Grandpop told me about:

my Pop worked in a papermill and a guy got a finger caught in the roller. he called my Pop and when he looked at it there was just the bone with no flesh...

a man in Colgate dropped a brush into a tank and quickly tried to retrieve it. turns out a blade was circling the inside of the tank and he lost his arm slightly above the elbow. he walked downstairs and told the foreman "i think i just lost my arm"...

my Pop was on shift at Maxwell House when a QA guy dropped his sample cup in the tank. the guy went in to get the cup and another guy went in after him and they both died...

another time my Pop was on shift when someone turned on a fan where a guy was performing maintenance and he got decapitated...

at Colgate a pipe-fitter was working on some piping that was used for boiling lye. the pressure was supposed to have been released and the pump turned off but when he cracked the pipe the hot lye shot up, hit the ceiling and rained down on him. He walked out to where the ladies were packing soap and collapsed. My grandad said the best thing that could have happened is for him to die as soon as possible, there was nothing they could do. he lasted less than 2 hours.

another guy in Colgate was climbing down a metal ladder and each rung had metal grooves so your boots would grip and not slip. he decided to jump the last few rungs but his wedding ring got caught on the groove of the rung when he jumped, lost his finger.

Pop was cleaning a jam on a production machine when the guy at the other end turned the machine back on. he wound up with a fractured wrist.

the second best one was, again remembering i was really careful to be an intelligent shop guy, i didnt lock in a piece of wood to hold the wood i was belt sanding. i hit the wood with the belt sander and it drilled me right in the stomach

and then another time i shot my shop teacher (different one) in the ass with the industrial staple gun

the only other good shop story was when i took the alternator outta the auto shop teacher's car on april fool's. his battery died on the way home. i failed that course.

sorry to hear that, Johnny. My Uncle somehow cut the end of his middle finger off a few months ago. Ouch.
I do not yet have any funny shop stories, but I hope to aquire some this year.

When I was in seventh grade, this kid Vinnie runs his finger through a jigsaw in shop class. Luckily, this thing is a low rpm dull ass piece of crap, so he gets off with just some gnarly cuts and a few stitches.
Needless to say, his mom freaks and has him put in home-ec class. About a month later, he runs his finger through a sewing machine.

Man, call me a wuss, but I treat a friggin single edge razor blade like its an axe; I've been using them and x-acto knives for just about everything since I was building model rockets as a kid, and I know how badly those can slice you if you space out for a second. Between X-acto blades and Mini-Dremel tools that about describes what i handled as a kid. besides the dick.

A running saw? Call be Cautiousy Cauterton [wow, that's weak] but I treat that like it will attack me if I'm not paying attention. Too many times Ive seen the High School Wood Shop Walking Wounded. Nuh-uh. Not me.

I'll be over here wearing my safety goggles and pushing through even gigantic boards with the help of more then just my bare hands.

I'm hand-phobic maybe. But man, I can't be losing digits.
