As far as I can tell it is a VERY small part.
Allow me to explain (maybe some of you can clarify this for me)
I was watching the A&E show on J.F.K. Jr. last night. As the part where his tragic and untimely death came up, I remembered how I was amoung a VERY small group of people who knew about the situation hours before the nation and the rest of the world.
I was working for Fairfield PD. as a dispatcher, when on the day that Kennedy died (July 20th or around there I think) i received a phone call around 2am or so. The called asked for the supervisor who happened to be the Sgt. (highest rank on duty at the time) and also happened to be on the road. I needed her name and the reason she needed to speak to him. She hesitated then said 'Kennedy'. I thought she was one of the Kennedy who resided in town.(two family's with that name were residents) She then said no..this is Victoria Kennedy, the Senators wife. I said "This is Senator Edward Kennedy's wife??" I thought it was a joke but then checked the caller ID and saw the area code and prefix were from the area of Mass. where Martha's Vinyard is.
I thought if this was a joke I would deal with the egg on my face and take it to be serious. (Better safe then sorry). I then got the phone number where she could be reached, as it wound up to be the Kennedy Compound private number.
Well we all know the outcome of this story.
I truely feel bad still for the family. And looking back I could remeber the stress and DIS-stress in Victoria's voice.
I was swamped with calls all the next day and into the following night from family and friends (which ticked me off...I workd from 7 pm til 7 am and I could not get any sleep...phone kept ringing!)
Anyway....it is not like my actions effected the outcome...but I feel like I had a "I was there...and was part of it" moment.
