if you let them out to run in your yard, make sure the gate is shut so they don't run away.

also, if taking them for a walk, i believe you need a leash.

and keep them away from Sponge Bob...looks like he has got something up his sleeve.

keep it moist... i think they give you a small sea sponge that you put in the cage, keep it moist... you can sprinkle some water in the shell and onto the crab once in awhile. and have a bigger shell available so when he grows he can transfer over to it...

i used to work at a pet store for 3 years and we use to sell hermitt crabs... Hermit Crabs live on land so they breath through gills u need to keep them very moist and wet, otherwise they will suffocate.. not sure if u have it, but u can go to any pet store and get a "natural" spunge... hermitt crabs use it to drink from and lay underneath for the moisture and the humidity... keep a water dish in the cage too but nota deep one where the crab can drown... hermitt crabs are also scavengers so they will eat about anything.. u can give them some fruits and vegetables mixed in with their food or give it in a seperate dish.... try not to keep them next to a heater or ac, they love humidity and this will dry them out...hope this helps

i had hermit crabs when i was younger they lived for about 3 years. bigger shells and moisture are key. you can get shells with eyes glued to them and a leash but after a couple months i got bored with that. You can get cool different colored shells though, i had a leopard print one that was rad.

I have 4 hermit crabs now that I love having as pets. When I woke up this morning, one of my hermit crabs had left their old shell and went into brand new one. I was very excited because the previous day another crab had left their old shell for a new one. Well, I just checked on my crabs now, and to my astonishment, I had only three crabs left. The fourth one who had moved into a new shell that I discovered this morning is completely gone without a trace. I looked in all 5 of my empty shells, and Fiona is not in any of them. I took out all of the hermit crabs, shells, the climbing log and food dish to search for, and still came up with nothing. I was wondering if perhaps she buried herself to start the moliting process. I am very nervous about my lost hermit crab.

During my Internet research on molting, they kept suggesting to seperate my molting hermit crab from the rest, but how do I do that when I can't even find the damn thing??

If anyone can find new information about disappearing hermit crabs, it would be much appreciated.
