Hey, I actually found a pair of celebrities who's remarks on politics I actually found interesting (probably because they put more thought into them than, say, that Dixie Chick).

First there's Orson Scott Card

The Campaign of Hate and Fear (http://www.opinionjournal.com/extra/?id=110004435)

I'm fond of that one.

Especially how he explains quite clearly how Iraq is NOT like Vietnam. At all.

And then here we have Michael Crichton, on the religion of Environmentalism.

Remarks to the Commonwealth Club (http://www.crichton-official.com/speeches/speeches_quote05.html)

Too bad he doesn't really list his cites, but he sets up a lot of straw men and then knocks them down.

I gave these as much attention as I give liberal celebrities' positions: I skimmed them, knowing that I'm getting the opinions of an amature. From that I agree with se7en that
he sets up a lot of straw men and then knocks them down.

But I think the difference is that I recognize that setting up straw men and knocking them down is an intellectual fallacy.

I think this is the same Orson Scott Card essay that surfaced a while ago. All I'm gonna say right now is that when you have to remind your readers FOUR TIMES that you are a Democrat through the course of your essay, you are not a Democrat.

I don't know man, I think the Dixie chick put all the thought she could muster into her comment. As did these citizens:

"Many families have been devastated tonight. This just is not right. They did not deserve to die. If someone did this to get back at Bush, then they did so by killing thousands of people who DID NOT VOTE for him! Boston, New York, DC, and the planes' destination of California--these were places that voted AGAINST Bush!"
-- Michael Moore, Michaelmoore.com, September 12

"(W)hen Communist U.S.S.R. was a superpower, the world was better off. The right-wing media is trying to marginalize the peace movement."
-- Janeane Garofalo

"The real terrorist threats are George W. Bush and his band of brown-shirted thugs."
-- Sandra Bernhard

"This is a racist and imperialist war. The warmongers who stole the White House (you call them "hawks", but I would never disparage such a fine bird) have hijacked a nation's grief and turned it into a perpetual war on any non-white country they choose to describe as terrorist."
-- Woody Harrelson

"I think that people like the Howard Sterns, the Bill O'Reillys and to a lesser degree the bin Ladens of the world are making a horrible contribution."
-- Sean Penn

Anyone catch Madonna's endorsement of Wesley Clark?

Now I know who to vote for...

Doesn't Madonna live in France now? Why the hell should her endorsement mean anything?
