i believe there are people are genuinely had, who have no hope of being turned around, who the world could do without. i won't jump to conclusions and say shoot this kid up with clorox, but he did beat a 50 lb, 6 yr old girl to death. if he has a history of violence, chances are, you can't turn him around.

i've worked with the mentally ill for 3 1/2 yrs, and there are people whose disease has overwhelmed who they are; they are essentially shells. couple that with a tendency to murder or rape, they are not fit for society.

it's a tough call for someone who was 12 at the time, but i fell there is 2 parts to justice: if guilty, the penalty should satisfy society and the family of the victim

Actually, re-reading what you're saying, I'm assuming you mean also just locking him away and not just killing him. Hell, I'm all for shutting him off from the rest of the world for the rest of his life. somewhat agreed, but someone like dahmer should have been gassed. people for "prison justice" are sometimes more sadistic than those for initial elimination. i believe there is a world beyond this one, where your actions here dictate what happens to you in the next. even if i didn't believe in "the next," i still feel there are extreme cases that some people are not fit/ have the right to exist.

the government choosing who lives or dies is touchy, but those who commit serial murder, serial rape, genocide, etc... should be done with. the world is a better place w/o them.
