Even though Natalie Portman seems to be saying that this time it will be good, for some reason I don't believe her:
From Studio Briefing: Portman Reveals 'Awesome' 'Star Wars' Scene
Natalie Portman is hoping fans will be satisfied with the final Star Wars film - because it contains some "awesome" action. Portman, who plays Queen Padme Amidala in the sci-fi prequel trilogy, admits she's not sure whether the last installment will be "worth it". Creator George Lucas has come under fire from disappointed fans who argue the new offerings do not match up to his classic original trilogy - but Portman insists the cast and crew have done their very best. She says, "I saw a pretty amazing fight scene between Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen. It's pretty sick. "They were thinking of having stuntmen do it, but they were better than the stuntmen. It's pretty awesome. "Is it gonna be worth it? We just shot it and we worked really hard. I think all of us were trying to make it as good as possible. "It was our last chance to sort of, you know, do something with it. So, I'm hoping. But they work on it for two years after we finish shooting, putting on the special effects and all that stuff."
Ugggh.
Does nothing to ease my fears.
Nothing mentioning the script, or the acting, or the directing or the continuity - "Awesome."

I loved the two new star wars movies. I don't know why everyone keeps saying they where bad. Same thing with The two new matrix movies, they where awesome. I think movie viewers are just spoiled, if a movie is not 100 percent perfect it is garbage.

Yeah. Jar Jar is by far one of the greatest SciFi characters ever.

I'm not saying Eps 1 & 2 are on par with 4, 5, & 6, but I enjoy them. I'm hoping 3 doesn't suck, but we really won't know anything until the end of this year. The hype machine begins January 2005.

If Lucas really wants to make it up to the fans, he'll do what someone on this board was calling for in the opening of Episode 2: open with a close-up of Jar-Jar, pull back just in time to watch him get his head blown off & we get to watch it splatter. Then, when you take into account the fact that this episode HAS TO be 'dark', not the half action/half love story crap we got last time, the movie should be well on its' way to wrapping up the story nicely. I'm still holding out hope that it will be good.

One of the saddest days in my life was about 6 months ago at a toy store - two little boys were standing in front of a STAR WARS toy display, and one of them actually said, "Who is Han Solo?" - The other boy shrugged. Then, a moment later, as if knowing that an old fart was standing near by, and was already wounded by such a comment, the same kid said, "Look...JAR-JAR!"
I felt woozy.
I put down my Barbie dream house and went home.

Director: George Lucas
Release Date: May 25th, 2005
Synopsis: Two years after Attack of the Clones, Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala are married, The Republic is at war with Count Dooku's Confederacy of Independent Systems, and Darth Sidious is preparing to make the final move that will ensure him control of the galaxy. With it's nearly endless supply of clone soldiers, the Republic is gaining ground against the Confederacy. Determined to avoid defeat, Dooku places a bounty on the Jedi Knights, who have already come under fire from the Republic itself. When Anakin turns to the Dark Side of the Force and joins the genocidal purge, Obi-Wan Kenobi must fight to protect Padme and her children as he heads toward a tragic showdown with his former pupil.
When I was like ten years old (1987) me and my dad went to comic books shows and baseball card hsows...and we went through and bought a ton of Star Wars comics because he thought they would collecter's items (they were like 4 for a $1).
Spoiler below..in white
one of the comics has obi-wan in a flashback (when he was alive) telling a fellow jedi that he had a lightsaber battle with Darth Vader..who was Anakin...and he barely survived...and Anakin was forced into a lava pit where his body was horribly burnt. Imperial (or 'bad guys'...i don't know if the "imperial empire" existed at that point) forces pulled his body out and under orders of the "emperor" rebuilt his body with mechical parts...
maybe he is programmed to be evil..or maybe he's just evil...but i remember thinking seeing that battle would be interesting..Text

Back in 1982 there was a story treatment that floated around titled STAR WARS EPISODE 3: FALL OF THE REPUBLIC. It's an interesing story, and in some ways will have to fall in line with what's going on here, but then there obvious changes that are very different - Amadala is called "Arcadia" in this 25 page scriptette.
Ok...my biggest issue right now is the continuity...
EPISODE 1 - Obi Wan is, what, in his early 20s; Anakin is 10...
EPISODE 2 - Ten years later; Anakin is 20; Obi Wan is in his 30s, while Uncle Owen and his wife look like they are in their early 20s...
EPISODE 3 - Two years later; Anakin is 22; Obi Wan is still in his 30s...maybe 40, at tops...
EPISODE 4 - Let's assume from Luke's age that it's 18 years later; Obi Wan is described as "Old Man Kenobi," even though he's in his 50s (Alec Guiness was 62 when they filmed the original movie) and Uncle Owen and his wife look much older than 40 (actor Phil Brown was 60!) - the same age Darth Vader would be in this continuity...!
Do we know how many years passed between Episodes 4 and 5, and Episode 5 and 6? Because, by the end (JEDI), Vader looks like a very old man - the only thing that would satisfy the inner geek is if about 25 years past between 4 and 6, putting him in his 60s - of course that would put Luke and Lea in their 40s.
Arrrgh!
I think this trilogy will ultimately be all right on it's own - it's just a shame, though, because the missed opportunities and mis-steps are so obvious.

it'll suck but i'm keeping the hope alive that it will be suprisingly good. after all the best of all was episode 5 when the bad guys win. let's hope lucas sticks with that motif and end it on a good note.

Lucas has so fucked up his franchise by retconning everything. As you just showed, KOP, the numbers don't add up.
Just think about it - Palpatine basically creates the Empire, a vast military organization that conquers the entire GALAXY - and the total time frame from creation to destruction in ROTJ is only about 25 years?!?!
It's utter shit.
Don't even get me started on how royally he fucked up Boba Fett with the retconning.

ROTJ wasn't really that great, But had some cool action scenes, I don't think TPM or AOTC were that far off: Bad acting, great effects.
Episode III should be about the same, but it will be cool to see Early Vader and the duel with him and Ben should be okay. Ewen was good (for about 20 seconds) in that duel in Episode I. If they can get that kind of energy for Episode III that should be good (but they used a stuntman in EpI, Maul)
How is Boba Fett fucked up? age wise?

One of the many reasons this trilogy has bummed me out is the total lack of surprise in it. I mean the big shock in #1 was suppose to be that Anakin was a cute little child??? In #2 it was that he got his arm cut off at the end??? PAH!
They had chances to do something in Episode 2, but because they didn't, it leaves no hope that there will be anything but what wwe already know and expect - which is simply connect the dot story telling, and very, very boring.
What they should have done (I love playing this game), is have had the three scripts written in advance of filming one second of any of them. Lucas was writing an rewriting up to the last minute, but he isn't a very good writer. He knows the story, and is an expert on the visual, but when it comes to developing plot, motivation and especially dialog, he sucks - almost as bad as his directing.
(In my opnion, a child actor is only as good as the director).
Ok...back to what should have been done...
Episode 2 should have been Episode 1; start the story off with Anakin already a wayward teenager. Have the romance with Amadala be a slow one, building to something at the end...
The new episode 2 is the one where he turns to the dark side, but keeping it secret from Padme. The emperor plants seeds of doubt about her, that she is secretly getting it on with Obi Wan, and before we know it, it's Othello. The outcome is, however, that Anakin has shacked up with one of Amadala's body doubles, getting her pregnant with the twins; by the end of this one, the real Amadala is dead, and he has turned into Darth Fucking Vader.
Episode 3 - An all out dark, brooding, horribly wonderful movie where the Jedi's make their final stand, and are slaughtered. Vader! Vader! Vader! Not some stupid kid that can't act his way out of a Canadian television series.
There...how tough was that?!
Hazzah!

not that it matters anymore, but lucas should keep vader out of the prequels ..... you need to protect the powerful effect of vader's entrance in episode IV
but lucas has turned the lastest movies (and ROTJ) into vehicles for merchandising rights and showcases for his special effects companies

Well, TooCute busted ya, so I lose the fun in that...
but the lava thing has been widely known in fandom for 20 years. the original ending had luke and vader fighting in a volcano/lava pit, but that was scrapped in favor of the second death star.

I would not consider myself a huge star wars geek, but to address the question of the timeline: This does, after all, take place in a galaxy far, far away. Who is to say that they follow the same human time table and aging process?
