GET OUTTA MY WAY, BARBARA

If Howard Stern had his way, Martha Stewart and other big names would be chatting with him.

January 23, 2004 -- HOWARD Stern wanted ABC to make him a full-fledged member of its news division when he inked a deal to host a primetime interview special.
But the network brass told him "there would be a revolution inside ABC News" and everyone would quit if the network did that, Stern said yesterday.
Being a member of ABC News would have put Howard on even footing with Barbara Walters and Diane Sawyer, the network's two best-known interviewers.
"Let 'em all quit. They ain't going anywhere," Stern said he told ABC Entertainment chairman Lloyd Braun.
"That yenta Barbara Walters, she's nine-million years old - she's like the crypt keeper. She's not going anywhere.
"Peter Jennings. You guys pay him way too much money. He isn't leaving," Stern said.
Stern made his remarks yesterday during his morning radio show - confirming The Post's exclusive report that he has signed to host at least one primetime interview special for the Disney-owned network.
An ABC News spokesman dismissed Stern's on-air rant as typical Howard bluster.
"Whatever," the spokesman said. "That sounds like Howard being Howard."
Stern also fantasized about people he wants to interview this spring - Saddam Hussein ("the sexual aspects of the regime"), David Letterman, Charles Manson, Roy Horn, physicist Stephen Hawking and perennial punching-bag Kathie Lee Gifford.
The top-rated shock jock seemed bitter that CBS - which is owned by the same media company that owns his radio station, Viacom - did not want him for a TV show.
"I don't need to do this show. I'm doing it just to p** all over Les," Stern crowed, referring to Les Moonves, the CBS president with whom he's been feuding for years.
Asked to comment, CBS repeated its prepared statement: "We wish Howard success with his new project."
Anyone going to watch this?

He will never be, as he claims to be, "The King of All media"
He is a bitter old man. No prime-time TV viewer would want to here him talking about Barbara Walter's breasts.
At this point, Imus is more entertaining. At least he acknowledges(sp) that he is an old fart.

Before his current "E" show, shortly after his wonderful Channel 9 show ended in the early 1990s, he did an interview show for "E" called "The Howard Stern Interview." It was actually really good - just him and a guests.
Typically he kissed ass a lot, but it wasn't that bad.

he did an interview show for "E" called "The Howard Stern Interview."
Wow, I forgot about that show, that was a long time ago. I can hardly remember it, but I'm pretty sure his guests were typically scrubs.

"The Howard Stern Interview" - I use to have a tape somewhere - I remember Grace Slick being a guest. Actually most of them were not people who appeared on his radio show. They tried to mix it up with people you wouldn't expect.
I do think Joan Rivers and Donald Trump made appearances, though.
I thought his recent appearance on Letterman showed that he can still be entertaining when he's making people squirm asking them questions.

What will happen is, if he does this kind of show, people will become aware of it and he wont be able to book anyone on it and the quality of guests will go down. Im my opinion, he has become a caricature of himself and he isnt funny, its almost pathetic. I use to be a loyal listener (8 years ago!) , but now I think he is hell bent on destroying himself.

They are so in demand, the only job they can get is working for the Fredo Corleone of Sattelite radio. My recommendation, don't buy the lifetime membership. Sirius is hanging by a thread.

Unfortunately none of those celebrities would appear on the show, & if they were, Howie wouldn't ask those question cause it would jeopardize his new network status. "Everybody love me for the fraud I've become."
This week's riveting interview... Danny Bonaduci, a shocking followup to his last appearance, a month ago. Next week, Joan Rivers.

please NO...i dislike the Stern show more because of his supporting people(except Artie). i can't stand Robin and the fact that Stern has allowed others like Stuttering John and Gary to talk whenever they want. mix that in with 2 hours of Stern complaining about the same things from day to day and you have a shitty radio show. but i would rather him have a show than Robin.

Barbara Walters just announced she's leaving as host of 20/20 in September. Stern will probably be bragging it's because she's afraid of his scary talent.
The sad thing is he believes his own hype.

He will never be, as he claims to be, "The King of All media"
Okay, then who is the king of all media?
It would have to be someone who had a #1 in the different type of media he went into.
Stern did have a #1 movie(even if it was just for a week, Return of the Jedi was #1 the next week I think), his Saturday night TV show had #1 ratings (wow that was a long time ago) His Book went to #1 in sales
But he never did any periodical media (Magazine or newspaper article) Stage work (well, he can't act or do stand up comedy) no real internet presence (he keeps saying the internet isn't fast enough for his planned Internet take over. He was #1 in Non porn Searchs at one point, but that's not his working, just fans looking for other fan sites)
"King of all media" wasn't supposed to stick, he was actually making fun of Micheal Jackson's self given title, and it stuck just like MJ!
He is the King of Fart Jokes, hands down.

Re: "King of all Media" - Don't forget about his soundtrack, which did well, or his pay per view special, which at the time was the biggest thing.

That's the thing people forget, or don't know, or ignore - sure he says ridiculous shit all the time about how great he is, but if you see his E show you can see he's smiling and laughing and not taking any of it seriously. Over the years the person he has made the most fun of has been himself.
His interview show will be fine - depending on who the guest is, people will watch. Sure he peaked a few years ago when he got divorced, however this last year there were a number of on air radio interviews that were newsworthy enough to be mentioned or referenced or just lifted for other media outlets - and people, even R&F and even D&M, talked about his appearance on Letterman, where it was really Howard asking Dave tough questions about the baby and the baby's mama.
Pah!

If Stern is willing to ask the irreverent questions (not "do you do anal?" but ask the questions that most interviewers are afraid to), then it'll be worth watching.
Stern occassionally complains about news shows like 20/20 being afraid to ask the real questions that people really want to know the answers to because they'll upset the celeb. If he asks those questions, it'll be really interesting.

His interviews suck because he doesnt get off the sex questions. He never asks a relevant question about the persons movie or record, its always about sex. I dont mind talking about sex but sometimes I would really like to hear him talk about another subject.

I have to disagree, I think Howard was in his prime during the channel 9 days when Billy West was on the show. Billy added so much to that show with his voices. They should put the channel 9 shows out on dvd uncensored.

Those Channel 9 days were wonderful. The tv show was great because he tried something different everyweek. Sometimes it didn't work, but at least they tried something different.
The Larry Linville MASH skit, the Homeless Hollywood Squares, anything with Underdog Lady and my favorite (and I think their last one) was the Sternlywed Game - really funny, and open and set the groundwork for opening up his relationship in PRIVATE PARTS.
I think there's a rights question regarding the old channel 9 shows, which is why they haven't been syndicated (they would be a natural for Comedy Central) or put on DVD.

The homeless hollyweird squares was hilarious with those poor homeless people with a mere dozen braincells left between both teams.
I loved the Richard Simmons episode when Howard pulled out the fishing rod with the bag of potato chips on the end of it. Then the 2 turkeys came down from the ceiling. Fucking hilarious.

And when he dubbed one of his "Sweatin' to the Oldies" tape with a dominatrix. Was that also the epsiode where that had Richard dress up as a "man" (straightened hair, suit, moustache)?
