In Sept I moved out into a new apartment. My landlord is a nice lady who lives in the apartment below me and my roomate. She has a 1yr old and she just had another kid about a month ago. At first it was annoying listening to the constant wailing of one child...and now 2....but more and more...I seem to enjoy hearing their misery. I find myself, whenever one of them begins to cry, lowering the tv,radio, comp and just sit there listening to the sounds of them crying. I find it to be very soothing for some reason. The one year old cries constantly. Youd think they were feeding him to sharks or someshit. The newborn cries very rarely and seems to be my favorite cause he sounds like he's putting alot of effort into his cries.

Like I said...its annoying cause you hear them bawling at least 5-6 times a day....but I just enjoy hearing their misery

Not me. Even if its a perfect stranger's baby crying I have to fight the urge to ask if I can have a turn trying to comfort it.

Nice shock post. Try spending a night downstairs taking care of the kids who can't stop crying and see how much you enjoy it then.

Oh boy, wait until you have kids...

If he had said he like to listen to babies cry as he raped them, that would be shocking.

As it stands, I'm calling on you the next time I need a sitter.

One time, I was forced into being part of a "family portrait." We went to one of those portrait places in a Mall. I swear, the sounds of children screaming turned my ovaries to dust.

True story.

I HATE going to stores and people dont know how to handle their kids. Its like they bring them out specifically to torture other shoppers. Running around....screaming...knocking shit down. Makes me wanna beat them for the parents.

The sound of my son crying used to really frustrate me because there's usually nothing you can do to make it stop right away and you think you did something wrong to start it.

After being a parent for a while, I didn't panic as much when my son started to cry. (We were lucky, he didn't cry a lot). You discover it's usually a problem with the baby at one end or the other. They are either hungry or they've taken a dump.

5-6 times a day isn't so bad though.

I like children from afar. Well, very far.

Yeah, there's the crying, the shitty diapers, etc. That all passes, but there's NOTHING LIKE getting a hug from your kid and hearing them say they love you.

Teaching them the things you know and watching them learn everything else about the world. Helping them work out problems, learning the alphabet, numbers, reading to them, it just goes on and on.

It's a load of work, but totally worth it.

My kids were not colicky, but I've got friends who had colicky kids. If you think your kid's normal crying gets to you sometimes just imagine your kid crying for hours non-stop. It's hell on the parents to hear your kid crying and know there's nothing you can do to stop it.

So if you enjoy a child's misery as they cry, the parents' misery must make you giggle your ass off.

F' this conversation, it's bringing me down. I'm going back to the Valentines thread and talk more about tossing Katylina's salad.

Its usually a bad sign if the suffering of others causes you comfort, let alone happyness.

If you really want to hear them scream, don't use any lube.

Kids don't cry around me, I don't know why. I guess it's my amazing resemblence to Barney.
