Ron's comments on Jews

I am a big fan of the show, but I am becoming concerned about Ron's attitude towards Jewish people. He has recently begun to point out when someone he has a problem with is Jewish and make uncomfortable jokes about it, even though it has nothing to do with any disagreement.

This troubles me particularly because these are no longer isolated incidents. It started with Billy Crystal, Art Garfunkel, and at least one other in the past couple of weeks. But when talking about his manager, Ronnie said, "Maybe Mel Gibson was right," ...

What do you think?

Ron shouldn't need defending for a joke, but here you go...FIRST...Ron and Fez do not have a manager, they have an agent. Very different critters, managers and agents.

SECOND...it has been a running joke about how low on the totem pole they are when it comes to their agent; how they never hear from him. Not only does the agent represent R&F, but his also represents O&A, the Sports Junkies and Ryan Seacrest, which is why that comment was brought out to begin with.

They never hear from their agent; they sometimes blame their agent for the situation they are now in doing two shows; they never hear from their agent, because the agent is too busy with higher profile clients like seacrest and O&A.

Did you think it a slight on Opie and Anthony when they said on one show, in regards to their agent, that "We are at least still on the air."? This is part of a very small running joke - it comes up every now and then, and then they move on.

THIRD...the Mel Gibson movie is timely, and made a convenient reference point, and (most important) it was funny.

FINALLY...it's the only time during any of this they have made reference to their agent being Jewish.

Regarding the great 2/12 show ... I understand taking a dig at Art Garfunkel for his career and his music (but that's subjective anyway), but why make WB feel bad because he liked a guy with a Jewish afro?

Btw, I've always enjoyed the Iris character because it's always been funny and playful. I can't wait to hear her return.

i'm not saying that i think this is one of those cases. but it's just really weak to think that just because a listener doesnt have to hear something the person saying it has no responsibility.

i just can't stand the whole "so just don't listen" thing. it is said all the time, and, as i was saying, it's not always good enough. it's like someone's killing your family or something, and when you try to stop them, they go, "oh, well you don't have to watch... just go in the other room."

So based on your definition, threads about, "why black people do this," or, "Jewish stereotypes," are not actually considered racism because no one is proclaiming that one race is "better" than another. So if I were to make a joke about, say, a Hatian hooker selling cheap, it would not be considered racism under ronfez.net terms, and I could not be banned.
