View Full Version : I dont know anything about cars
Ive been in the market for a used truck, So this whole week really SINCE I lost my job and since I had about 4300 saved up. Now Pretty much the only thing I know to look at are the hoses, and the fluids like color wise, but anything beyond that I dont have a clue how to repair or know what anything does really, I know you step on the gas to go and the brake to stop

What exactly are you looking for? Why buy a car when you have no job?? Get a job first, but if you get one, Id suggest a certified used one, at least youll know its been looked over and you usually get an extended warantee on them. Try a toyota dealer, Ive had alot of luck with toyotas. If not, if you know a trustworthy mechanic, have them look the car over for you to see what they think. Oil should not smell smokey, and be really black or gritty and no scorchmarks on the dip stick. The tired should have good tread on them. Transmisson flud should be reddish color and the same as above with the oil. Listen to the engine, it should run smoothly with no knocking noise. Look under the car on the ground for any leaks that might indicate a blown seal or something. try and look at the brake pads if you can see them through holes on the rims to make sure that there there is some meat on the pads, between the disk and the caliper (metal housing that holds the pad against the disk-the disk should be shiney with no deep scratches). When its running, apply the emergency break and put it in drive and see if the car moves without pressing the gas, if it does, you might need new rear brakes. Go behind the car when its running and listen and look at the exhaust, to see if the exhaust is overly smokey (it should be whitish if the car wasnt run in a while, but not bluish, that would indicate burning oil which would mean the engine has seen better days and oil is escaping past the rings on the pistons and passing through the valves out the exhaust. It would be a bad sign. On start up, most cars will have some condensation in the exhaust that will boil off and produce whitish smoke (really steam) and that ok. But if after running for 10 -15 minutes, there shouldnt be any smoke. Bring someone with you that might spot something that you overlook.

SUCK = Fuel Injection into the carb; spray the gas/air mix into the cylinders.
SQUEEZE = Compression of cylinders by pistons.
BANG = Ignition of Fuel/Air Mix. Explosive increase in volume drives pistons back up.
BLOW = Suck the exhaust out of the cylinders. Repeat.
The four-stroke Internal Combustion Engine.
My students remember it 15 years later.

I don't know anything about appliances. But that hasn't stopped me from sending my resume to Bob Barker for one of the Price Is Right Girls positions.

i worked in the auto business for most of my life before getting out about 9 years ago. 1 thing i learned NEVER BUY USED ANYTHING!!! unless you absolutley have no choice. all cars are driven and wear out differently. lease a a cheaper new car like a corolla or something. if you ever drive by a new car dealer look at the used car section most of the time you see the same cars sitting there.

Here in my car
I feel safest of all
I can lock all my doors
It's the only way to live
In cars
Here in my car
I can only receive
I can listen to you
It keeps me stable for days
In cars
Here in my car
The image breaks down
Will you visit me please
If I open my door
In cars
Here in my car
I know I've started to think
About leaving tonight
Although nothing seems right
In cars
I know I've started to think
I know I've started to think
