Did you ever notice whenever you buy a soda at McDonalds you use the straw. Do you realize you can open it and drink like a cup. Let it be known I use the straw but come on... IT IS A CUP!!!!!!!!!!!

The straw & top are to prevent spillage when carrying, driving etc. Some people may not need the top and straw because they are eating in, but some people just like straws.

i love straws. why drink from a cup when you can sip through a straw? duh.

also, the fast food places load the drinks up with so much ice that it would surely spill all over if you try to drink it without a straw when it's full.

Id be more confused about why some people feel the need to tilt their drink when they have a straw. The only way that'll work is when you've got a little bit left to drink, but it annoys the hell outta me when they start doin' that.

when i first saw the heading, that's what i thought this topic would be about ....

then my answer would follow, the straws are so wide to consume as much as possible, and be more apt to buy another tasty beverage ...

The cups they use are also very soft, so if it's very full and you squeeze the cup too tight when you lift, there's spillage.

Well, it wasn't a whole conversation. There's always the sanitary wrapper issue. Do you actually feel safer when your straw comes in those paper or plastic sleeves, and if it comes out of one of those communal straw dispensers, would you rather just drink straight from the cup and risk spillage?

I actually take handfulls of straws home from McDonalds because I prefer their width. If I make a pitcher of Iced Tea and I have it in a large glass with ice I prefer its capacity.
