Bush must be creaming his pants. (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=578&e=1&u=/nm/20040618/ts_nm/russia_us_iraq_dc)

Wow. This is HUGE for Bush if this story has validity. Thoughts?

Because they're assholes. The attack wasn't planned on their soil. True Allies.

THEN WHY THE FUCK WERE THEY AGAINST THE WAR!?!?!?!

The answer?

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

You know how some people harp upon the fact that way back when, America supplied Iraq with weapons?

Well, the 1% that the U.S. supplied them b/w 1973 - 2002 must really OVERSHADOW the 57% Russia did. (http://home.comcast.net/~sak420/saddam.html)

Or the 13% that France supplied.

This was why countries like France & Russia were criticized by Americans for not supporting the war - they had far too much financially to gain from Saddam staying in power.

At least Russia didn't try and take the moral highground, though.

EDIT: Before any of my usual colleagues takes issue with that graph, please visit the SIPRI website (the link address is at the bottom of the graph); SIPRI being the organization who compiled the data. The organization works quite a bit on weapons disarmament projects.

At least Russia didn't try and take the moral highground, though.

But they couldn't say a goddamn thing for the last year and a half our country has had the entire world slinging shit at us?

Pardon me for a moment while I scoff at Putin.

*Scoff* *Scoff*

The man is scum. I thought so before, I thought so when he was against the war, and I think so with this. He's a liar, his government is absolutely corrupt, and he has no moral or political agenda except for where the Russian Mafia-controlled money takes him.

Everyone thinks Russia is better off without communism, but I still maintain what happens in that country while this man "runs" it is worse than ANY of the leaders that can before him in the 20th century, short of Joey Stalin himself. The world is going to be paying the price for his failings in the decades to come. So excuse me if I take this information with a somewhat gigantic grain of salt.

An extremely pessimistic (and hopefully fictional) account of what might have happened (much better when read in respective Texan and Russian accents)-

(phone rings in the Kremlin)

GW: Hey Putey... it's me! Yer buddy Dubya!

Vlad: Hey Georgy boy! How's it hangin comrade!

GW: Shriveled and slightly to the right!

(eruption of laughter)

GW: Seriously though. I need a favor, Putey. I'm in a bit of trouble.

Vlad: Ah. The whole election thing, again. Can't you fix it like last time?

GW: Well buddy, it's a little more complicated than that. See this Iraq mess got me in a whole heap of trouble. Damn 9/11 panel is saying there was zero link between Iraq and terrorism, and the whole damn country believes them. If I don't win this thing my Daddy's goana kill me! Seriously the sumbitch just jumped out of a goddam plane at 80 years old, he'll whip my ass! Not looking good for yer buddy Georgey.

Vlad: Vell, vot can I do for you den?

GW: Well Dick came up with this idea....

(some whispering)

Vlad: Vell, that is a big favor comrade... I don't know...

GW: Who do I make the check out to?

Vlad: Attaboy.

Mojo's pining for the good old days of this guy
http://www.marxists.org/glossary/people/b/pics/brezhnev.jpg

While, in my opinion, both Mojo and Se7en are right on their specific points (!!!!!), I think that Putin is merely playing a little realpolitik here; by throwing Bush a putative [get it?] lifeline he's creating an IOU that he hopes to cash later on something he cares about if Bush gets re-elected.

Don't forget, that W gazed into Putin's eyes and saw that he had a good soul a few years ago and you can't get any more certain about an issue than that. These days, anyway.

"Hello, DOLLY!!!"

I think I'm most ill at ease because of Putin's shadowy KGB past.

The guy honestly worries me. Russia is going to come back as a world problem again, BIG time...and sooner than anyone wants to realize. And international terrorism is just the thing to split a destabilized country like that WIDE open.
