Republican-run Carlyle group bought out Lowes theatres yesterday (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A58968-2004Jun21.html)

I got wind of this yesterday, but couldn't find an article, funny how I found it wedged into this one;

Carlyle also was part of yesterday's $2 billion purchase of the U.S. and Mexican assets of movie theater chain Loews Cineplex. Bain Capital LLC and Spectrum Equity Investors were partners in that buyout.

Who Carlyle is (http://baltimorechronicle.com/media3_oct01.shtml)

chances are readers haven't ever heard of The Carlyle Group. Isn't that a little odd, considering it is run by a veritable who's who of former Republican political leaders. Former Defense Secretary Frank Carlucci is Carlyle's chairman and managing director (who, by the way, was college roommate of the current Defense Secretary, Donald Rumsfeld). And that partners in this mammoth venture include former U.S. Secretary of State James A. Baker III, George Soros, Fred Malek (George H.W. Bush's campaign manager, forced to resign when it was revealed he was Nixon's "Jew counter")

All told, Carlyle has about 420 partners all over the globe, from Saudi princes to the former president of the Philippines. Its investments run heavily in the defense sector; they make money from military conflicts and weapons spending.

Gee, I wonder if they'll have any influence on what the biggest theatre chian in America will show to the public?

Which one of these things is not like the other? Which one of these things is not the same?

Seriosuly though, if there's one thing these people care about more than politics, it's MONEY. So, if anything, this means more crap for the teeming, uneducated masses.

Besides, if they wanted a conservative theater business, why would they pick one that is mostly based in urban, liberal areas?

Well, I guess I know where I won't be seeing Fahrenheit 9/11.

I'll be seeing Fahrenheit 9/11 in a Loews Theater on Friday.

When they have extensive ties to the administration, sure

Plus, last time I heard, the Republicans had control of the House, Senate, and Supreme Court, unless I slept through an election or revolution

Like HBox said, money dictates these kind of things above all else.

If these guys are honestly in it just to censor "liberal Hollywood," they're in to lose a LOT of money...and then some.

Somehow, I don't think that's too likely.

Yes, this is all a vast Republican conspiracy to censor the movies of guys like Michael Moore.

This was actually discussed in last month's meeting of the Conservative Reich. Right between thinking of new ways to keep black men down and figuring out a Final Solution for liberals.

At the last liberal love-in, right after we got done commanding Michael Moore what to do next, we emptied out our wallets and threw all the money at the nearest minority we saw, and then made jock-straps out of a bunch of American flags we tore off of the uniforms of evil veterans.

Was this before or after we nominated the water cooler for Mayor of Springfield. I can't remember.

i gotta disagree with you HBOX....there is a point where you have so much money all you really care about is power....and making people conform to that power....they are now in a position to influence the public by denying the arts to those who NEED to see them....

its pretty scary actually...

So, does this mean we should not let people buy companies because of their political views?

More like, we should have more media outlets, instead of big conglomerates that can be traced back to one owner that can monopolize most media with thier agenda
