Universal Plug & Play

I ran one of the utilities on the GRC (http://grc.com) webpage and it found that Universal Plug & Play is currently set to enabled and strongly urgend that I disable it. I've had this disabled previously, though I recently installed a wireless network between my computer and laptop. If I disable this service will it create a problem with the networking? If anyone can help me on this I'd really appreciate it.

I found a article (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,1232585,00.asp) on PcMag's website regarding Universal Plug and Play and from the sound of it - it appears that it is something I would need to have enabled if I want to be able to use my wireless network.

I'm still not sure if that's correct though. So if anyone can clarify this for me I'd appreciate it.

The guy who runs that website is a very smart and talented man. he is also a little (read: HUGE) bit of a hypocondriact. WHile he does provide a wonderful service on his site with a lot of great tools, he will make you feel like having port 113 closed and not stealthed means that every single keystroke you make will be watched by communists and recorded for when they take over the world.

Truth be told, a lot of computers are insecure and have problems. UPnP is not the cause of this. Do not disable this at all. You will be more than fine with this enabled. It will make life a lot easier. Do not worry.

Thanks for the info JPMNICK, my system passed every test except for that one, so I just wanted to be sure.
