I think they're giving him too hard a time. I don't support just cowering and be a Union Square faggot but it's just a song. And I support violent retaliation
EDIT: Hell, sometimes you need war to make peace.

Damn, I go away for an hour and all hell breaks loose (from what I can tell) on the show. Sorry, but can someone explain what happened? Something about an Elvis Costello song?

Al played Costello's "What's so Funny About Peace, Love and Understanding" and Ron went off on him.

Ron did the right thing with Dukes.
We keep talking about Vietnam - This can't be another Vietnam!
The Vietnamese did not attack one of our cities killing thousands of civilians,
they did not attack our military stronghold - the Pentagon
We are justified in all matter of military response. We the military need the support, (no matter what bullshit tough guys there are in the movies) down deep the soldiers are just common Americans in uniform. They are just as afraid as any of us. Their lives are on the line.
If you want to pray for peace - please DO! just be careful in the manner in which you profess you fervor for peace! If we do not attack and Destroy these terrorist groups I KNOW that they will not rest until we are reeling as a country and millions are killed.
The military leadership does not want to kill soldiers of the Uniited States. This is not the "War PIGS" song by Black Sabbath. We are a country that has been kicked in the face and there needs to be a response!
I pray for peace - but prepare for war - they brought the war to us - we will bring the pain to them!

The best way to peace is an occassional show of force that let's your foe see that you have the means to back up your words. When they see you cannot be bullied, they won't try. Peace, Love and Understanding are good goals, but war is a means to peace.

Let me first start off by saying that I am in no way advocating a " peaceful " solution to this tragedy. I believe that major damage has to be done both on a physical AND psycholgical stand point. I am rest assured that that will happen as well. We must wait for the well informed decisions of those that are in the know. Venting and saying " lets bomb them back to the Stone Age ", although mildly ammusing and to a point goal orienteted, is only a way of the common man expressing their opinion, and not the actual way we will go about it. For God's sake, as many people have said, these countries are only 5 years removed from the Stone Age.
But I have to disagree with your analogy Rooster.
The Vietnamese did not attack one of our cities killing thousands of civilians,
they did not attack our military stronghold - the Pentagon
In this manner, we actually violated THEIR sovereignty. This would make us the oppresive force no ?? ( Again, for the record, I am totally in agreement with what we attempted to do over there, but this is just a perspective )
And what about the case of the Gulf war ?? Again, the Iraqui's never committed a terrorist attack against us. At least none that were reported to us. We went, and as good peacekeeper, tried to help a nation that was vastly outnumbered ( here maybe we should have stepped back a little. I have a personal belief that at certain times a people have to fight their own battles, unless of course those battles are a little too uneven ). But Iraq showed no outright aggresion towards us.
We can not equate this situation to any other that we have ever been confronted with in our 200 plus years. We are not facing a standing army. There are no easily recognizable uniforms. This needs to be done with the cooperation of many different organizations, not just US, but throughout the world. I have complete faith that the situation will be addressed forcefully and meaningfully.
We know in our hearts that we could never rid the world of complete terrorism, but we'll do a pretty damn good job if erradicating those that openly practice and support it.
God Bless !!

The only reason I brought up the Vietnam War was to point out the fact that we are totally noble and just if we attack these terrorists.
I did not wish to begin a debate on the Vietnam War.
We are obviously honorable in our fervor to destroy terrorism and I do not want the peace people to disturb the support of the people that will be in harms way - AGAIN!
I f you want peace - great! So do I, BUT there are actions and a response to these animals that must take place in order to preserve our freedom in the country - there is no alternative with these people!
Again - I brought up the peace movement, protesting Vietnam, only to accent the fact that the War there was questionable to many - there should be no question with our current national direction! JUSTICE!

Sometimes war is needed to assure peace. That's it. This is bigger than Nam. Vietnam we were fighting an economic ideal, in this we're fighting an enemy that attacked us at home.

Again, I agree whole-heartedly and I'm not looking for " peace " at all.
I guess I've just been a little annoyed about all of the talk show and television hype concerning, not the act, but terrorism. I'm a little upset that people didnt not realize that this was happening for years and now all of a sudden feel shocked.
Also pissy at the people that assume these things can be stopped by the CIA as easily as them saying " Hey, stop, you're a terrorist ". Unfortunately, its not that easy.
My hope is now that we have seen that there is news on the other side of the paper, oppossite the Yankess and Mets, that more people will stay in tune with current events and what goes on in the world around us.
Not that any reading could've prevented what happened, but at least we'd have a firmer grip on reality.
