View Full Version : My sister

I had a sister named Kathleen. We called her KayKay. She was a twin. She was also my best friend. As little kids, I would watch my twin sisters as they played in the back yard. I forgot to mention that they were born blind. Anyway, as we grew older, me and KayKay would go every where together..the store , the movies, church. Then on jan, 6 1974 (6 months after I graduated from the Police Academy) she came down with th Hong Kong Flu. She went into a coma amd finally died on march 17. 1974. this devistated me. My sister, my best friend, was gone. I was 21 years old and didn't know how to cope. My parents were destroyed with grief and the rest of the family was paralyzed.
But you know what? As the years went by, we survived. I still think of her every single day but it's usually about a funny situation. it's amazing how the mind works. Just the other day, I was crying over my wife's death but then something funny comes to mind and I get over it.
How do you cope with past tragedies????
Please ...no sympathy...just relate and empathize!

We definitely need a drinking night thing where we can just go somewhere and drink. Not a bar crawl. (Not that there's anything wrong with a bar crawl), but just a night where we converge on a single location and have drinks all night, talk, laugh, whatever as friends. I'd happily do that if either of you (Reeshy, M1) or anyone wants to hang out.
One of my favorite things when me and my friends would get together somewhere to drink would be that for the most part we would either be talking about our situations and supporting one another. We might be playing pool or darts as well, whatever just to be there and hang out with one another.

I lost a friend in a car accident. I feel better by writing about her in my journal or looking over her memorial website and posting a message. What still freaks me out is when I see girls that look like her (this happens a lot) with their hair pulled back wearing clothes that she used to like to wear. My heart misses a beat, and I have to remind myself that she is gone.
Hey-- us Long Islanders can all meet up at a bar one night before the rf.net softball game.

Great solution. Drink More! We need more drunken threads!

You know what I mean Mike. It doesn't necessarily have to involve alcohol, but at the same time I feel weird suggesting a juice bar. For the most part I just mean to meet up and hang out and talk.

Yeah I know; all I know is you guys should be glad I didnt know about this board when I was a BoozeHound and couldnt put Booze Down.
It's fun explaining the AOL, who suspended your account [again] because of some drunken chat room rant you cant even remember.
Trick: Blame it on your kid. Don't have any? Neither do I! Works like a charm.
I'm not anti-booze. I love, and miss the stuff. I really do. I actually have a 12 of Heineys in my fridge for visitors. Wow they look tasty.
But I got the Belushi/Moon/Farley gene. Oh well.

A little over a year ago, the funniest kid I ever knew and one of my best friends in the world passed away at 29 years old. When we were in our early 20's, he would always joke about how he wouldn't make it to 30. He wasn't serious, it was just a joke about the alcohol-drenched, drug-addled lifestyles that we were living at the time. In the long run, he turned out to be right. As far as I knew, we'd both abstained from the hard drugs of our youth for many years, and limited partying to beers & an occasional joint. I found out that my knowledge wasn't accurate when he overdosed on heroin last March.
Not a day goes by that I don't think of him. But like you said, it's funny how the mind works. The only memories that ever find their way into my head are of the ridiculously funny moments. I find myself laughing much more often than crying. I miss my boy like you can't believe, but somehow my memories keep me somewhat sane.
