I really hate potheads

Im not inot smoking it at all. I do know lots of people who do it on occasion, and some for medical use. But Im hearing stories from others who go around asking everyone and everyone where they can get some pot, or leaving someone behind with a bunch if strangers to go smoke is just sad. I just dont get it

I don't understand where the hatred for pot comes from.

I've never smoked in my life, just cuz I've chosen not to. It's simple. It wasn't difficult for me at any point. I didn't deal with peer pressure, or losing friends. I just didn't smoke, and that was it. No one cared.

I hang out with people who smoke all the time. It's no different than hanging out with someone who likes to wear red shirts. It's just a personal preference. Who cares? It really makes NO DIFFERENCE to me, whether you smoke or not. I don't, that's MY business. And if you do, that's YOUR business. I don't CARE.

I know plenty of people who use it responsibly and are functional, hard-working, and successful human beings. ANYTHING can be abused. Food, alcohol, religion, weed... It's all the same. My friend deals the weed and it's a good business. He's a great guy and nice (I dont smoke anything and I have no problem with him). He can get himself into trouble sometimes but he knows how to get out. The only problem he has is that he has a *little* problem with money and stealing. Other than that he's generally clean.

More stuff via edit: I DO think that smoking pot is really stupid but I'm not about to dissassociate with someone JUST because they do drugs.

yep, sat; i'm just trying to step back and look at a bigger picture.

every society has some sort of form of alerting consciousness, its sorta like sex and drugs and rock and roll; every culture we know [unless i'm missing one, and hey...] has found ways to get Buzzed, buzzed = anything: booze pot coca leaf shroom; and that was before modern chemistry showed up and LSD, MDMA, and purification of coca into rock. And huffing lysol. thought id throw that one in...

Some are starightedge, but the numbers, if we include all of the above, would suggest, Americans like to get buzzed. Ditto for just about ever courty, culture, we go back in the pyramids and theres the booze all set for the next world for the pharoah to have a nice buzz on the other side.

So I try to look at it as; forget about judgement of the pople, coz we're judging ourselves, unless one falls into the total starghtedge category.

But by the numbers, fine, hate potheads, but in terms of sheer ruination of lives, property, crime, homicide, all the sundry Causes of Death: Pot is a whisper in the hurricane that is Booze.

And as for booze, no judgements here, from teetotaler to a few a week to getting shitfaced daily; whichever you are, there you are. I judge the person by their character, seeing if they are good and true; not by what they might choose to put in their body.

I think its obvious here that both these poor boys had friends who suddenly don't hang out with them anymore because they are now with a different crowd. A crowd that likes to have a little fun and smoke a little weed.

Seems to me that are two anti-pot persons are a bit angry that their friends now feel the "other" crowd is "cooler" and they don't see them as much anymore.

What you have to realize fellas, that when you take this anti-pot stance with friends, they're not going to want to hang out with you, or anybody, that is giving them shit.

So you can either keep your scowl and damn them OR just be cool. Don't bring it up and if they ever ask you to smoke, a simple "No thanks" can go a long way.

Or you could just lighten up and take a drag.

I haven't smoked in over 5 years, 10 years since I smoked regularly. While I don't miss it that much I wouldn't begrudge anyone their occasional smoke. When it becomes the central part of their life, then I lose respect. As with any controlled substance, such as alcohol, occasional recreational use (IMO) is fine. Habitual over-indulgence is just sad.

In high school, I was also anti-drugs and alcohol, as were my 4-5 closest girlfriends. Once we graduated, I went upstate to college and those girls ended up commuting to local schools. I slowly discovered the wonders of alcohol, and, eventually, the weed. Every once in a while I'd come home for the weekend, and I'd hang out with those girls and talk about my experiences up at school. They made me feel like I was the most evil person on earth because I dared to go out to the bars and drink, just like the majority of college students do. I hated having to defend myself, so I eventually phased them out of my life and didn't look back. I don't miss them at all. I just wasn't ready to experiment with that stuff in high school. At one point, you'll be ready too.

I would never. I know people who smoke pot and I wouldn't want them to be busted. Do I think their dumb, yea. Do I want to see them get busted and get in trouble, no.

I can't make anyone stop doing what they do. I can, however, disagree strongly about them doing it.

I also re-read everything that I said in this thread. Not once did I say I hated someone because of smoking pot. I said:

I hate the fact that high schools across America have kid's who are dealing pot. That bothers me how it's a business to some kids now.

I remember having long drawn-out conversations about how the only reason pot was illegal was because of the Cotton Industry. Something about the desire of the other textile suppliers trying to get rid of the hemp alternative that was budding (haha) in the late 1700's is coming to mind. Then again, we were burnt-out kids talking shit. I don't know if any of the nonsense we were preaching was based in truth, it just sounded like a good pro-pot argument to make when we were hitting the gravity bong.

I think Hippie meant someone who lets their life be dictated by their pot use. I know that's what a "pothead" means to me. Like, someone who has convinced themselves they can ONLY do things if they're stoned ("Dude, I can only go to class/work/movies/etc. high!"), they're stoned more often than they're sober, their primary income is selling weed, most of their spending money goes to weed, and so on and so forth.

I mean, I smoke a lot of weed. A lot of people here put me to shame. But It doesn't sound like we have any potheads here. A pothead, to me, wouldn't even be here in the first place because it would take up "valuable" smokin' time. To them, if the option is smoking or doing almost ANYTHING else, they're almost always gonna choose to light up.

But hey, that's me. "Pothead" means different things to different people.

A friend and I were driving in the city, near Times square with a HUGE White Owl burning, and one on the dash, also had 3 nics in a compartment. Anyway, they pull me over, ask me what I'm doing, why we are smoking, etc. I told him we were Westchester boys (true) just coming to see the lights.


The cop on the other side reached in and picked up blunt number 2, which was just enormous. Unnecessarily big. He asked my friend what the fuck was this? In true stoner fashion, my boy turns and says, "It's a blunt." Then breaks out with a wicked case of the giggles. The cop throws the blunt BACK on the dash in disgust, claiming to have never seen one quite so big (I get that from all the girls)

Cop #1 askshow I can drive after/during smoking these bazooka's, I told him I was a safe driver. This nearly brought the piggies to tears of laughter. He told me to make a right at 42nd and get the fuck out of the city.

We parked, and walked around smoking the next 2 blunts.

me and friend were walking on merrick and about to roll a blunt. i was breaking up and the my friend was cracking a dutch, a cop walked up to us and asked us what we were doing. we didnt respond cuz it was obvious what we were doing. i had the gram we were rollin and about 3 or 4 in my pocket. the cop took our weed but left us with a split dutch and each of us got a summons. we went to court got a $50 fine and in 6 months it was off our record. i love decriminilization.

and as for classifying smokers, theres a difference between a pothead a casual smoker and a burnout. when i was dorming at stony brook i was a burnout i was surrounded by it constantly and everytime someone on my floor wanted to smoke they came to my room cause of our wicked ventilation system. now i smoke a little bit before i go to sleep and about every week or so i have a little binge of an evening consisting of 3 blunts. but thats it.

We pulled into the Amoco on 4 east in Englewood, asked the attendant for $3.25 of regular. He says...

Well, that lasted for about a week or two then, suddenly my man was fired. Can't imagine why??

And that was the last time I ever bought weed... 22 years ago kids!

My family suffers from alcoholism and as a child I had to raise my brother and fend for myself because my dad had to support us while my drunk mother was passed out on the couch.

My dad is a pothead and he worked his ass off to provide for his family. Only to relax after work he'd get stoned and watch a movie.

He never hit us, and he divorced my mother when he found out she raised her hand to us. So which is the bigger evil?

I rarely drink because I am afraid what it can do to me, my husband drinks a lot but we are working on that.

I smoke every once in awhile but only to relax after a rough day at work or bad news, panic attacks etc.


I think pot needs to be legal and alcohol needs to be banned. We would have a more peaceful country.

In fact I think that it should be mandatory for everyone in the world over 16 to smoke pot at least once a week, there would be no more war

Pot is like anything else. If you make your whole life about it, it's a negative. If you use Pot to relax, it's fine. If you're losing jobs because you can't get your shit together, you need help.

I think it should be legalized and regulated in a similar fashion to alchohol. Something you can legally obtain but shouldn't drive on it, even thoug I know people who smoke and drive all the time. I've done it.

It should be legalized because it would make a good deal of money for the U.S. government and reduce the profitability of exports, thus hurting the purse-strings of overseas drug-dealers by reducing the export value of said pot, and damaging the finances (a little bit, since there's still plenty of illegal high demand drugs besides pot, but fuck it, it makes more sense) of certain Islamic groups occupied in extra-curricular activities of the explosive variety. It was made illegal in the beginning of the 20th century due to political agendas amongst businesses- they also said "if man was meant to fly he would have been given wings" around this time. Is it truly wise to rely on such incorrect, dated and obsolete judgments to dictate the policies of the Present?

As for the dangers of pot versus alcohol here's what kills you from doing either. Alcohol: liver disease, alcohol poisoning, cirrhosis, assholery (including drunk driving), William Holden. Pot: Cancer (20% or higher than tobacco cigs of getting lung cancer). Umm...smoking 100 bowls in 2 hours. Which one has more ways it can kill you or someone else?
