First and foremost I want to say that I take full responsibility for what happened today. I was done with my work and it was toward the end of the day. I decided to get on the web and surf around. I was reading the threads on David Chapelle, and , best rap acts and they were so interesting I lost track of who was around me. Apparently the boss saw what I was doing and he called my agent at the temp agency. She later called me and told me I had to leave and that I would not be coming back tomorrow. She told me that what I was doing was unprofessional and he wasn't going to let me come back the next day. Now he's the most fucked up thing about it...Today was my first day there and I was supposed to be there for 4-6 months. The pay was pretty good at 12 dollars an hour. That's a alot of money I am going to be missed out. I fucked up. There's nothing more for me to say.

That really stinks. One of the things I hate about working in an office. I actually got busted once by my boss a number of years ago looking at a very (!) inappropriate web site. While I didn't get fired, it was something that hung over my head the whole time I was there.

That sucks. Try to call and apologize saying you did not realize that it was so looked down upon. Explain you were done with your work and were just killing some time. I would also send an email or written letter of appology stating this is not the norm and will not happen again. And to give you another chance.

A few years ago, I was in a cover-band at night and working in an office during the day.
The band was going to do "Tap the Bottle" by The Young Black Teenagers and I needed the lyrics. Like an idiot...I typed YOUNG BLACK TEENAGERS into a search engine and a million inappropriate sights popped up.

I had to BEG for my job after that one but at least they let me stay on.

I hate to say it but I think you're fucked. You can call and apologize and all that, but I don't think it's going to get you anywhere. I been in management long enough to know if a boss makes a decision like that, that they rarely will change their mind. Unless you were some sort've a busty blond chick, or were in someways related to the guy who owned the place. I say cut your losses and move on, though use this as a lesson in office behavior. While RFNet may be safe by whatever standards, you could just as easily get fired if you went to Yahoo!. Remember you're a temp. Do what you're supposed to do and don't fuck it up you might be asked to stay. Fuck up, as you seem to have and you're done.

if it was a temp job, you're fucked. i was a recruiter for a temp agency, they'll just replace you with another temp.

they don't really check internet usage at my work... but they're moving me from an office to a cube, so myself and the other assistant have ordered some nifty "glare filter" screens, you put them on your monitor and you can't see what is on your screen unless you are sitting directly in front of it.

at my previous job, my manager did once say "i notice when i walk by your computer you are always minimizing the screen". never really got in trouble for it though.
