The "Fez Flubbs and Cusses on Air" thread reminded me that there are times when my eyes sees one thing and my mind overrides it.

Example: There is a generic "Ritz" cracker in our local markets called "Applause". Unfortunately, I don't associate applause with a type of food. Consequently, everytime I see the box, I read it "Applesauce".

This thread probably won't go very far, but I'm curious to know if others out there have similar experiences with differences between the actual words/sounds and what their mind tells them.

I know it makes no sense, but I read it incorrectly almost everytime I pass them in the aisle.

So I was sitting in my cubicle today, and I realized, ever since I started working, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. So that means that every single day that you see me, that's on the worst day of my life

On the supermarket theme, whenever I see Bran'ola bread, I always read it as Brainola.

I'm not sure if this will qualify, but sometimes when I'm getting gas at a Getty's, I think of "The Golden Girls!"

I've seen this a few times and read a little about it, but still don't buy it. Besides the fact that the author of this email misspelled "research" (with two H's and two C's) and "doesn't" (with an extra T), would you be able to identify "Cidgmbrae" as easily as you can the way it appears here ("Cmabrigde")? Probably not.

Try this on Google:

"Cmbarigde" --yields-- > Did you mean: "Cambridge"?
"Cidgmbrae" --yields-- > Your search - "Cidgmbrae" - did not match any documents.

Google probably uses a similar algorithm as our brains do: the first and last letters are very important, but there seems to be a weight assigned to the positions in-between. If individual letters stray too far from their intended positions ("Cidgmbrae"), the word becomes indecipherable. But if the letters remain close enough to their positions in the actual word ("Cmabrigde"), the weighted score of the word you read is close to the weight of a word you know, and you (and Google) make the association.

Back on topic: Whenever I see a sign for "East Hanover", New Jersey, I always see "Hangover".

There's a place called Cheesequake in New Jersey....I see it as Cheesecake! Sometimes I even drive there, but guess what? It's just a place with regular roads and houses....it's not a town made out of cheesecake at all like we all thought!

All the signs in and around Devon, Pa remind me of Devo.

And who can forget that lovely Pennsylvania town: Intercourse. I always imagined someone hitch-hiking to that town holding up a sign...

The only rides to Intercourse are that of horse and buggy!

It's strange but every single time I saw that thread about the Fat Darrell sammich in New Jersey I for some reason thought it was spelled Darnell and would even call it the Fat Darnell. I don't know why though.

There's one on Tonelle Ave in North Bergen called "VIDEO FLIXX", but the space between the L and the I is so tiny that I always read it as "VIDEO FUXX". I'm actually convinced it's intentional.
